Grand Tournament of Westgate

Post by Melusine » Mon May 18, 2015 7:29 am

Adventurers near and far are invited to come and test their strength against their fellows, competing for glory and prizes in a Grand Tournament sponsored by Anastacia Syria, Truescar of Loviatar. It shall be held upon the plains just outside Westgate, and open to all. Refreshments shall be provided.

This is a contest of few rules: all armor, magic, and weapons are allowed. Participants are encouraged to bring their very best equipment and techniques. The rules that are enforced shall be as follows:

-No aggression is permitted against anyone who is not your opponent.
-For those wishing to use spells that attack an area, the opponents shall either use positioning to avoid attacking the public (OOC: Grouping and having the spectators go killmode nofight), or shall take their battle aside.
-No killing. Combat shall be to the point of unconsciousness.

Opponents may be matched according to strength and/or profession, to allow for the most entertainment of all.

Entry Fee is 5 platinum, Spectators may attend free of charge

The winner of each division is offered a special magical item, and their choice of one of the options listed below:

Platinum division: Levels 40-50
-Glowing enchantment placed upon an item
-A complete map of the Underdark Wilderness
-1000 Platinum

Gold division: Levels 30-39
-Glowing enchantment placed upon an item
-250 Platinum

Silver division: Levels 20-29
-Glowing enchantment placed upon an item
-100 Platinum

Bronze division: Levels 1-19
-Glowing enchantment placed upon an item
-50 Platinum

The only exception is if the Platinum division winner does not wish to choose the maps, the Gold division has next opportunity, so on and so forth.

If the time either works or doesn't work for you, please let me know either in the thread here, or by PM. If you can be specific that'd help the most, like "One hour earlier", etc. I'd like to have as many as possible attend! The time is by no means set in stone. Also please drop a PM to me, or send a message to Anastacia in the MUD if your character wishes to pre-register for the tournament, as it helps me get an idea of what to expect, and how it should be laid out.

Edit: Changing up the prizes slightly! Champions shall be awarded a Beshaba TM designs item (The 'magical item' mentioned) AND their choice of the other options. So, more prizes! A huge, huge thanks to Beshaba for doing this for us :D

Baller. If I can stay awake that long, I'm definitely competing for that map!

Just curious, are we allowed to enter only one character? Or would we be able to enter multiple characters via different divisions?

Either way, I'm gonna do my best to make it!

I don't have a problem with people sumbitting more than one character, as long as it is in different divisions. That just makes for more contestants!

I'll try my best to be there! How could Amira miss something like that?

There's no way I'll not be there (will message in game)! :D

Few questions, just to be sure...
It sounds like *any* spells that aren't made for outright killing (wail, pkiller, etc.) will be allowed, even more unfriendly ones like acid spells and such?
Does the magical item reward depend on the division? Stronger divisions get stronger items?
And... Are the maps like the ones you can obtain in game (the ones with a URL to a picture of the area)? I ask only because I'm blind and so I can't use that sort of thing. Just thinking ahead! lol

Can't wait!

Yes, you can use any spell you want, as long as you don't kill your opponent. It's basically a 'no holds barred' match.

The magical rewards shall be scaled per the division, and appropriate for the class of the victor. (See Beshaba TM designs)

As for the map, it's something that I've put onto four parchments in-game, no URL required. I don't really have a way to apply the map to something more user-friendly for the blind, I'm sorry :(

The map has taken a lot of effort from the character and the player to make. It is listed as a reward before you sign up - I think the map is a lovely reward and I thank you for the effort to make this.

phantasmal killer and banshee wail will not kill while in killmode stun, should they be allowed? I'd feel kinda cheesy using those spells on players in this sort of event.

Nope. the chick with the whip wants to see blood, pain and the other fluids not suitable for consumption at children's tea parties.
I trained up double-edged bananas because the uber-plantain of doom I scored from the beehive quest was the best weapon in the game. Now it's being treated like a bug and they have gimped its damage! That's not fair! My character is ruined!

I wish this would feature some team combat, or maybe 2 vs 2. I'm don't stand a chance if Madam Truescar throws me a war wizard to fight.
What are Beshaba's TM design items by the way?

Yep, any spell, as long as you don't kill! The idea is to enjoy some violence without unnecessary restrictions. And as Yemin said, the lady with the whip thinks it's more fun that way. >_> You can choose not to use particular spells if you want as per your RP, but the contest rules aren't blocking them.

I'm also going to be trying the best I can to match people by their class at first, as number of contestants allows, to be fair and give people a decent chance. It just depends on how it all comes together. (Which is why I prefer pre-registering, so I can go in with a bit of a plan. ;)

As for the special items, they are going to be a surprise! I'm not even sure what they'll be yet, but I am very excited to see them. :D

Alright, was just making sure, so as I understand it ANY spell, even if it brings the person from full HP to stunned. Gotcha

If any of my characters participate, they will be an hour or so fashionably late as this starts an hour before I get out of work. Looks like it'll be fun :D

Will not be making this one, as sad as that makes me. Good luck to the contestants now that you don't have to face me!

I hope I suddenly get sick so I can stay home from work and attend, alas I am unlikely to be so fortunate. :( I was looking forward to this all month, good luck to those who are attending!
