(Disclaimer: Aesnir's accent is strong and this is in first person. You guys can tack on extra information if you want, I figured since nobody had done it yet, I might as well post what Aesnir would tell a curious individual asking him about it in detail.)
"Ya' wanna know what happened? Aye, 'course."
"Ya' see, the orcs have been raidin' Waterdeep for a while. This time, though, they were organized. They sent not jus' orcs, but ogres, trolls and someone kept raisin' tha' dead as zombies to keep fightin'. Was their leader, Jarg Brassskull. Hear he attacked Silverymoon at some point, too. Big orc, aye."
"His army killed a bunch o' us, least eight, then they left, jus' like tha'. Figure they were tryin' to regroup and come back while we did tha' same. Tha' Lord Piergieron showed up an' organized an assault on their camp as we recovered. At least a dozen o' us went initially. We flew to the plains outside tha' camp and we called 'em forth..."
"Turns out, things were more complicated than tha'. Tha' battle was one to remember, though. Wave after wave of goblins, orcs, trolls and ogres were sent, 'til they had exhausted most o' the camp... but tha' wasn't the end of it. Nah. We thought it had ended, aye, but it wasn't over. As we tried baitin' Jarg out of his camp, he called out to summon demons. Aye, demons."
"We lost a few in those fights. Started 'bout the same as before, but they kept sendin' more hellspawn in and stronger ones after tha'. Aye, lost 'bout five or six of our group which grew with a couple o' stragglers. When we finally killed Jarg, things got quieter. Jus' when we thought we'd won, most of us heard it."
"Tha' flappin' of massive wings, wings tha' couldn't belong to 'ny demon. Dragons. Two of 'em landed right in tha' plains and came chargin' with groups of one-eyes! Dun' remember much o' tha' part 'sides the fire and tha' claws. Aye, Sylen, strongest gnome I've ever seen and one o' the best of us, dropped and then it came to me. Tried my damnedest, but I ain' much of a match for a dragon."
"When I came to and aye, I was still livin', they were bribin' the winged lizards with the coin and armor of tha' tribe had left behind, bein' dead. Tha' battlefield was littered with so many bodies, some o' which I couldn't recognize as orcs or other, nastier critters. The dragons? They took those bribes, aye, and razed the entire camp to tha' ground. Fire spreadin' and ash blowin' in tha' wind. Think I even heard some o' the stragglin' orcs screamin'."
"Tha' orc, Jarg? I'll remember him for a long time, as tha' Hordeking of tha' Brassskull Clan. Only orc I've heard of tha' could get even dragons to help 'em."

*Spoken by a cloaked and cowled figure to a couple of interested patrons at the friendly arm Inn amidst a celebration.
Whats that? You say you saw the smoke and ash all the way from the foot of the snowflake mounts?
Yeah, thats about the right of it. They hit the deep but we hit back harder. There isn't anything to be happy about. Stop acting like animals yourselves. You go treck up there to the ash and snow. Watch the dying embers and see a few bones then come back and let me see if there's a smile on your face.
I'm told that used to be that Deep fellas raided that camp nearly every month and something stepped in to form a truce. Was a dumb move by Brasskull to let that Kharnath have his boys for thieving that belt and cloak.
The belt and cloak? Nothing to do with me. Go ask a tree hugger how stealing some skin and cloth will let them summon an avatar and how those two things'll let em make slaves of thems that get in their way. Sure as sure I didn't see any belt or cloak in the ashes and you aint seen 13 summers here yet if your naive enough to think they burnt up in the fire.

I trained up double-edged bananas because the uber-plantain of doom I scored from the beehive quest was the best weapon in the game. Now it's being treated like a bug and they have gimped its damage! That's not fair! My character is ruined!

Ungtar, squatting on a rock in the troll mountains and watching the smoke trail waft away on a cold and bitter wind.

Whoa. We need to catch up like this more often... I'll provide the drinks.
Obstacles are those dreadful things you see when you take your eyes off your goal.

Actually, I agree with that sentiment. It solves several problems too. Particularly the one Yemin mentioned about not always getting to be present for some of the longer running stories.Aishe wrote:Whoa. We need to catch up like this more often... I'll provide the drinks.
I really enjoy reading the in character after-action commentary.

5 Star post there, Aesnir. I'd love to see more of this to catch me up on what I may have missed.
Also Aishe is offering to bring drinks! That means it has to be good.
Noble intention. Slow action. Swift justice. Swallowed pride. These are the traits of a plucky hero.
