Elven Height

I know it's very minor in the grand scheme of things but I'd like to suggest a change to the help file "Elves - Physical description". As it is now it says that elves are generally between 4 1/2 - 5 1/2 feet in height. Forgotten Realms elves are different than the standard D&D elves in that they are on average similar in height to humans.

From The Complete Book of Elves (Second edition sourcebook)

Code: Select all

The elves of Toril do not follow the standards of most other worlds. What unites almost all the elves of the Realms is their self-bestowed title: Tel'Quessir. This translates to "The People." All non-elves are known as the "NTel'Quess," or "Not-People."
While these elves possess the standard elf abilities, their appearance is markedly different. These elves are of human height, though there the resemblance ends. Like their more typical cousins, the elves of the Realms are much more slender and delicate in appearance. Breaking down the elf nation still further, there are five separate, distinct subraces of elves in the Realms, each of which is viewed differently by the other races.
And this post viewtopic.php?f=73&t=7387 shows some of the heights listed for elves in the 3.5 sourcebook Races of Faerun.

I know it would be a bit of work to change how the code generates heights for elven characters, but changing the help file to show the canonical height range would be a good start in my opinion.

I would love to get in on this. Even though I basically ignore what the score sheet says and just rp it in description, it would be nice to have it reflect what the canon states.

I'd like FK to deviate from this. There's something very cool about a 4 foot elf being able to do things a 7 foot human would do but perhaps acrobatically, or through that very other, very fey connection that I at least like to RP out occasionally. Mostly in combat.

At times though I feel this point is moot since mudwide the body ratio and expressive stats in descriptions is not enforced. I always took it as more of a guideline than a rule since stats can be expressed in a myriad of ways.

Take 20 str. That could be raw arm strength, or that could be technique, knowing how to use your entire body and channel your movements to use all your muscles.

The first would look like a bruiser, but the second could be a gangly skinny monk who does have toned muscle but it doesn't really show.
