Gerrart - Candlekeep - Phlydia's Spellbook

During the quest in Candlekeep to find Phlydia's spellbook in the pile of, hay, ala
...I have run over into Dreppin's field to try and find the book, and he returns
I have tried "search hay", "search cow", and other variations of "search" roughly a thousand times now, and variations of "dig" a couple of dozen, and all that's returned is..
Is the keyword something else that I'm not getting? I am not invisible or hidden, etc.
