The Elminster Open

Gauging interest in a season two of the realms wide tournament, post here with the character you would enter. We would forgo the tournament bracket and focus on a larger version of the redemption pool, that is anyone may fight anyone else, and the most witnessed wins equals victory. We will maintain the flexibility of the previous event, and move away from what did not work. The winner will receive a Named magic weapon of legend which they will help design.
Class and combat rules are likely to remain the same, other than disallowing consumable/activated items and activated item abilities. Though this is Elminster-open to contrary suggestion.

I'm in with Aoife, of course. Someone else can wear this damn belt when they win.

I'm in with Cabadath, hoping not to lose at the first fight

I suppose Ailyn will once again offer herself as a witness, as I am not huge on PvP and I would rather make myself useful.

Lustria will enter as she's currently making a real effort to improve herself.

Just remembered I'd meant to make a suggestion. During the last contest, I saw a few times something like the below, in beginning spar rounds:
Bob smotes.
Bob begins to chant.
You guess Bob is casting earth reaver.
Bob utters the words, 'earth reaver'.
Bob makes the earth explode and showers Jack with rock and dirt.
Bob's slash tears open Jack's chest.
Bob's slash minces Jack's right leg.
Bob's slash tears open Jack's chest.
Which is to say, use of offensive spells without engaging first, effectively giving the attacker two full rounds worth of damage. I would suggest either avoiding offensive spells for the spar rounds, or just engaging and then starting to cast your offensive magic. Casters are heavily favored otherwise.
Thoughts on that one?
Edit: By
offensive I mean any spell that starts coded combat. So this applies to things like earth reaver and power words, but not necessarily things like hold person since those don't initiate combat and so don't make any advantage cast outside the spar.

We could make a ruling of switching to killmode nofight if you are going to cast an offensive spell during your pass, and then switching back to spar.

That would work, too.

Does that allow for your opponent to get an attack in though? Offensive rounds in spar aren't typically one-sided

Oh yeah, it wouldn't. Probably best to just keep on spar and engage before casting, then, maybe. That seems the best way not to favor the casters.

Is banishment considered a death spell? I ask because by the code that is a yes. But in what the spell actually does IC, it technically shouldn't be.

When applied to extra planar, if it is just doing damage it is fine, if it is doing save or die mechanically, then no.

Passing on this one, I'm afraid, in hopes of future tournaments separating melee from casters. The rest of the setup is brilliant (thank you for sticking to a more open bracket), but I don't have a caster that can keep up this time around.
Best of luck to all!
