How do YOU recruit new players?

Post by Kinal » Tue Nov 06, 2018 2:54 pm

Hey guys!

I've been on FK for on and off for close to 14 years now. From my original group of IRL friends, only a couple of us still play. I DM a regular 5e DnD group, and knowing everyone, most of them would probably love FK.

However, these are usually the retorts that I hear when trying to get them to come play:

-Wait, like no pictures? Seriously? You know (insert video game MMORPG here) exists, right?
-If I wanted to type a bunch, I would write a book, or buy a Windows 95 copy of Mavis Beacon.
-Eh, I don't want to get sucked into just another World of Warcraft.
-Many, many more.

Was wondering who all out there has recruited, or has been recruited by existing players, and what are the best ways to get friends to hop in and try FK?

I've found that of the couple people out there I have gotten to try, the initial process of learning whats on the screen in front of them, and learning all commands and syntaxes has been the hardest. They love the stories we tell of FK, but the functionality of it to them is like reading the Matrix.
Technically, we're all half centaur.

For the folks that like to say, they would prefer to write a book... you might frame FK as a shared book. Within the background of this game, most of the videography games do not have the same story-telling dynamic. They are a bit static in what they can do. We are only limited in our RP to our own whims and the context we build them.
