Okay... not to sound like a total idiot... but I was on catching up on some of the forums and I noted a banner on the bottom of the page. It was advertising another Free online RPG
Now I do not mean to sound obnoxious.. but... O.o Um... why would we do that? lol We keep trying to get our numbers up by having people rate our game on MUD connector and such.. why give them a clickety little link to go away from us?? O.o
Perhaps we have no control over the ad space we are putting here? Even still, I think that this ad is sort of defeating our purpose
Just my blithering....

Any MUD that's placing banner ads isn't free of economic taint, even if it is free to play, trust me. I'm guessing you saw an Imperian ad. I came from there, tried that as my first MUD before I found FK. Yes, it is free, but money opens doors. The RP is nowhere near as good, even though the clinkety-clinkety allows them to have people running RP's quite often, and the world is huge. My honest opinion: The more people clickety clickety and try those other places, the more they will appreciate FK. (Or, they'll find some place that's a better match for them - no problem there, to my mind...FK is the grandmaster of what it tries to do, but it's not for everyone.)
As for why these ads show up: Google knows all, and figures out what we are into...and sells targeted ad space to the type of people it figures out we are...hence all the dice, miniatures, and RPG ads, includings MUDS, MORPS, MMORPS, and what have you. I'm heartened to see the number of "Become Sir Twink-a-Lot in just 24 hours!" ads decreasing...maybe that means we folk don't click on those!

I agree with Raona here. I don't think we have anything to worry about. So what if people go check out some other games? Sometimes I just feeling like slaying things left and right without consequence or maybe I just want to blow stuff up. The point is, if you want RP this is the place to be. I challenge anyone to find any game with better RP than right here. You aren't going to find it. This is the top of the line. The ones we do lose to those games are probably the sort of players we don't particularly want around. The ones we do want around are going to be the ones that come back.

I admit, I've tried other MUDs but I always come back to FK because it's far better than any other out there. I've tried the hack-n-slash among other types of MUDs but they all lack something, not sure what....oh wait, RP and interraction with the deities/imms.
Now I won't lie I will continue to try other MUDs but only when FK is down and I'm bored stiff, but once FK is back up I'm right back there like everyone else simply because FK rules the MUDding kingdom.

Speaking of funny ads, I just saw one at the bottom of a page which advertised a "jacket of the gods" . D'you think it comes in plus 5 protection-against-normal-missiles varieties? On the subject of other muds, though, I agree with Raona. If the one you're seeing at the bottom is this "Dragon Fable"...well, I guess Wikipedia can say it more eloquently than I.
Not to discourage you from trying stuff, but I think we're all lucky to have found FK (though perhaps more sleep-deprived for it )Wikipedia wrote:Players may play a limited version of AdventureQuest for free (free players are called Adventurers), or pay a one-time fee of US $19.95 to become a Guardian and unlock extra features. An X-Boost, which costs an additional US $5, if bought with Guardianship, and $10.95 for existing Guardians, grants the player 10% extra XP per battle and other benefits. Guardians may also play ArchKnight, another Artix game loosely based on AdventureQuest which is somewhat abandoned and replaced by DragonFable. As there is a limit on the amount of free players playing simultaneously, and the free version of the game is very limited, some consider the free version to be simply a free demo, instead of a free web RPG. All accounts (including free accounts) can have up to five different characters.
