A note posted upon the note boards proclaims:

Greetings to all of the Realms,

I as well as fellow patrons of battle are holding a fighting competition at the Spider Village located northeast of Kobold Tower, which is also northeast of Berdusk. Any and all are welcomed to participate in this test of strength and skill, be your background of clerical, warrior, wizardly or other! Come and test your skills with those of similar experience!

Rules:

Participants - Required to pay an entry fee per fight based upon their fighting division (OOC: based upon level), which if they win, they shall get back as well as a portion of their opponents fee as a reward. Participants shall be matched up to those in similar fighting divisions if possible. Other rules shall be explained to the participants at the fighting grounds.

Spectators - Upon entry there is a one platinum ticket fee to watch the fights for as long as you wish!

Betting - Betting shall be allowed during the fights.

Cheating - Cheating shall not be tolerated in any way whatsoever. Offenders shall be punished harshly.

If this becomes a successful event we shall try and hold it regularly. Come and gain prestige and fame as a champion fighter!

Signed,
Dalente De'Amondes
Second-in-Command of the Zhentil Keep Fighter's Guild

The first one will be held at:

We'd come up with different 'weight classes' and the price of a bout would be dependent upon one's weight class. The list is as follows.

Level 40-50 - Heavyweight: 15 platinum per bout
Level 30-39 - Middlweight: 10 platinum per bout
Level 20-29 - Welterweight: 5 platinum per bout
Level 19 and below - Lightweight: 1 platinum per bout

People will only be fighting people of their 'weight class'. When a bout is arranged, both fighting parties will give their bout fees to the house. The house will ensure it's a clean fight as well as impose a few rules to ensure fights stay exciting, as well as heal people up after the fights are over. At the end of the bout, the winner will receive his bout fee as well half of his opponent's bout fee, giving them a nice profit.

Anyone who attends without fighting will be asked to pay a 1 platinum entrance fee which will allow you to watch the fights. If you're fighting in the competition, you don't need to pay an entrance fee.

Some of the rules we've come up with to ensure that the bouts stay fun and interesting for people watching...

1. The first five rounds of the bout will be on killmode spar, with emotes necessary in-between each action. After that competitors will have the option of switching to stun or remaining on spar.

2. No one may disarm their opponent more than 3 times

3. No one may cast more than three spells upon themselves prior to a fight, though once the fight begins they may cast as many as they like.

4. No area of effect spells, we want people watching to feel safe.

5. No invisibility spells, people came to watch a fight, not for someone to stand around looking confused.

These are the ones I recall offhand, more may be added up to the beginning of the competition. We will enforce these rules so people betting on the fights can ensure that they're not being cheated.

Since it is being held in a cave, I dont believe we will have to worry about this, but just incase, also no flight spells.

If there is no area of effect spells that may hinder some wizards.

These do not sound like cage matches-- not everything has to be acceptable. And an audience choking on a cloud of acidic mist is likely more of a problem than one bored by an invisible gladiator.

Sounds like an excellent idea but due to the time it will begin, I won't be able to join :( Oh well, maybe next time there's a competition.

Player-run events are a good thing for the mud and this one is no exception; however, please take into account your individual character's rp. Fighters and fighter tournaments are common enough among varying alignments and affiliations. I would, however, question a paladin of Tyr who fought a sparring match for money or fame against a faith enemy. I think the same thinking would go triple for priestly types.

Sure, it sounds fun to test your mettle against other players and PCs. But please don't lose sight of your IC perspectives.

Special thanks to Lathander for helping create the betting room and transporting people for us. He made things a lot easier with a bank and healer there, and I hope he had some fun watching. He also helped get the word out with his announcements to the realms, so kudos again!

Danten and I both had a lot of fun and we were really happy with how well this turned out. It wasn't anything special, but we hope people had fun. At one point we had at least 25 people in the room, fighting betting and watching and RPing with each other about stuff that had nothing to do with the fights, which was pretty great. If people would like, we can hold these fairly regularly so long as people keep them professional and fun like they did tonight, and so long as the admins approve of events like this being held.

This really required very little planning, about 20 minutes of Danten and I discussing the rules and then simply announcing our intention to hold it. It turned out way better than I expected and I hope that we can make another one even better. We promise to pick a better day as well, so people from Europe won't get the short end of the stick. Perhaps the same time on a Saturday night. Just watch for more announcements!

I'd be glad to show up at the next one. Rough times, with college and all, but it sounds great. I'll definitely be there.

I'd also like to thank everyone for showing up to the event. We didnt expect that much of a turnout so it was a great surprise!

We had some great fights and I hope everyone had lot's of fun. Perhaps in the future we can have a more structured tournament style fight with better prizes and things. This time was just to have a feel for it and see what everyone thinks and to let people come together and fight who they wish.

Also, thank you to the imms that helped us out. It is much appreciated.

I had SOO much fun. I really want to thank the two that set this up, and I also want to thank the IMM support. If this happens more regularly, you have my support for it, and my vote.
