Trading Post?

I was talking to a ranger and druids and I have noticed the woodland folks although in most cases of rp wouldn't need moeny except for components and such but to the juicy morsel of my idea!

What about a trading post with people who will trade in tanned hides or armour or wood crafted items even arrows for coin? The better quality the item the more money you earn taking into the account the components to make each and such? Ranging from a few electrum to a gold or two? I think it would be a fun place for rangers and druids to earn money in an ic manner and also a place for city folk to run into woodland folk to perhaps offer to buy there skins directly or trade and the likes?

I will offer to write the descriptions and such. I would think 2-4 rooms would work -cough- I can't do programs on mobiles though!

I love feedback! -hint hint-

I second this idea; it's something I've thought up for a long time but never come to fruition. The idea of tree huggers getting together to trade with one another/city-goers. For most of us, we don't enjoy waltzing into the Market Square to barter and find RP. It's not IC for most of us.

With the influx of everyone and their brother making a ranger or druid, I think this would be a vital asset to Wilderness RP

My support given, and if assistance writing descriptions for the area is needed, I'll help.

I don't know if it is possible, but here's an idea. The mob(s) that would be used in the trading post, rather than charging or accepting only coins, would be able to value an offered item. Then, the item could be taken as partial or full payment toward the item "purchased."
For example:
PC: <offer>armour boots [where armour is in PC inventory and boots are "for sale"]
NPC: Takes possession of the armour from the PC's inventory and figures its monetary value. Then, the mob compares that monetary value against the monetary value of the boots.

If armour value is less than boot value
NPC: "The item you want is worth X coins more than the item you offer. Do you wish to pay the difference?"
PC: "Yes"
NPC: "That will be X coins."
PC: Give X coins NPC
NPC: Give boots PC

If armour value is more than boot value
NPC: "A good trade" Give boots PC

Hmm. I was thinking something simpler like how you turn in bandit scalps or hobgoblin ears and such for a coin and such. I am unsuer if there is a way to check quality to add a variable to how much they have. To trade in pc leather made armour or tanned skins. Arrows can be sold from pc to pc and such I am sure.

I like the trading post idea the way Lathander explains it, because the aspect of handing over and object and receiving coin in return is not trading as much as selling...in my opinion at least.

aye, The whole idea behind the trading post as well was also to have an outlet and a more ic way for them to earn coins. You can trade or you can all out sell the item. I could see if you hand an item over and if you set the place up like a pc shop so when you hand the item over it gets moved over to a room the storekeeper draws from can now be bought?

Either or its a neat thing that would be a great addition and add a place for some to meet up and rp the city/woodland folk interaction. Even get wizards who might trade components to druids and rangers?

As I began work on the temples area I pondered something similar to this.

Currently, one drawback with selling or buying items in bulk is the global limit and the restriction to buy only five of a single item type before refusing to buy further.

With the new area I had ideas around using give and bribe progs to buy and sell raw materials - ore, hides, skins etc - which might match what you are suggesting above.

Rather than a single one-stop shop though, I would be spreading these around different geographical locations and on different mobs.

For example, a dwarven NPC might sell ore in the same way that some wood merchants currently do. They might also offer a few coins for raw ores mined by PCs.

I know that there is an NPC in Mithril Hall that has a similar prog on it. Giving varied mountof coin for varied amounts of metals. Dont remember for sure if it raw ir smelted though.

Hmmm I like the way Kelemvor outline it seems cool! Spread them all over and each having a different theme? I could see one up in Settlestone since they did export metal ore to other cities for one of there main income I think!

This makes my day. From the Great Grey land of Thar to the Ice reach range there are thousands of uncharted miles you can stick trading posts into.

I'm reminded of something I read of the Fur trade in Rupert's Land in the 18th century. That you could spend two years traveling between trading posts, since the overland route was so vast. :)

Oghma has the right idea, I'd personally love to see random trading posts in totally out of the way places, it'd really add something to the game imho...
