Currently when you are writing a note there is a command (note show) that will show you the note you are holding, the entire thing with all of the coding. There are a lot of times, especially when Ynaura is painting that people want to look at the painting, or people are peeking over her shoulder as she's painting..and so on. It would be really nice to have a command that you could use to show people the parchment you are working on, without actually having to give it to them (They don't need to see the coding though..) . Someone rp's peeking over Ynaura's shoulder at her painting, I could just use this command to let them see what is on the parchment rather than having to remove the parchment and show it to them and hope that I get it back. I could also keep working on it since I still have it in my possession.
It would work basically like the 'note show' command, only you'd be able to show it to other people. Like : 'show note Ynaura'. It would be just like if that person were holding the note and looked at it themselves. Now I know you can just give the person the parchment and let them look at it..but that can get really annoying for a number of reasons. Firstly there are a lot of times when we rp just sort of leaning over and showing someone something. And you never know if that person is going to go linkdead..or if they are just going to forget they have it, and walk off. And poof, you've lost whatever you were working on, when ICly you were just leaning over to show them what you were working on. Sometimes you even get that rare person that just begs and begs to see what you are working on and then -refuses- to give it back.
A lot of times in the cases of Ynaura's paintings, I don't save that stuff until it starts to actually resemble something so I could lose hours and hours and hours of work. I do not know how hard something like this would be to code, but there have been numerous times when it would have been very helpful to have. Now this shouldn't replace when you actually need to give someone something to read, but there are plenty of situations where it could be used. This is not a life or death have to have it sort of command, but it would be nice if it were possible to do
Show command
Re: Show command
This would also be really good for other items, as well: Someone who wants to see your prized mace. Do you really want to hand it over to them and hope they give it back? Sometimes, probably, risk outweighs RP reward.

Re: Show command
A wonderful idea, I should think. Though one thought comes to mind.
There should perhaps be a way to counter this command as it could be a potential frustration. Imagine if someone with Mister Goldfarb's newspaper (not to pick on Pev, of course) wandered into a group and used the show command to present the newspaper to each person in the group. That's a long message to have just appear on your screen. Now imagine if that person did it three times (or more) to each person.
Maybe a time delay would be appropriate? Something similar to the "You cannot do that while recovering from physical exertion!" messages if you were to try and spam the kick command?
Still, maybe this should be done as an agreement by both parties, similar to group formation, which calls for an invitation and and acceptance. That way, even if spamming someone blind isn't on the agenda, you couldn't accidentally cause some poor soul on telnet to suddenly lose the conversation they were in.
Sounds like a fun idea, though. Even moreso if it becomes applicable to all items.

Re: Show command
Ahh, good point.
I didn't even think about it that way because I don't think she intended to be able to show everyone at once. But now that you mentioned it, I wouldn't agree to a show command that worked for everyone..
Like:
Show "<object keywords>" all
I would agree with the idea of having a:
Show "<object keywords>" <specific person/"adjective keywords">

Player wishes to show you item. Type 'allow' to accept.Keltorn wrote:hat's a long message to have just appear on your screen. Now imagine if that person did it three times (or more) to each person.
Madness does not always howl. Sometimes, it is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying, "Hey, is there room in your head for one more?"

Re: Show command
I would go a bit further and have the player character grouped with you.
May you find the knowledge you seek. If you find something else, it is still knowledge, and as such, still a gain.
Re: Show command
That's kind of a hassle just to show someone something. :/
I honestly don't want to see people grouping up in the square if they don't have to. Or, during any real relaxed RPing.
