Moradin Priests and Weapons

Is it possible to get short and long axes added to the list of weapons allowed for Priests of Moradin? It is quite common and tradition for most dwarves, including clerics of Moradin, to use axes of all variations. I think it would be of more benefit for dwarves (considering their difficult RP) if their priests could use axes without having to spend a feat point for it.

Honestly, I think all Dwarves should get it as a weapon proficiency. After all, those Dwarven War-Axes they are supposed to be automatically proficient in, are of that group.

Canon answer only

In regards to dwarves and axe familiarity:

Weapon Familiarity: Dwarves may treat dwarven waraxes and dwarven urgroshes as martial weapons, rather than exotic weapons.

Priest weapons:
Clerics are proficient with all simple weapons, with all types of armor (light, medium, and heavy), and with shields (except tower shields).

--------

Since priests do not receive martial weapons on their proficiency list, a priest would not be able to wield axes.

Good call, my bad. An oversight.

What happened to priests using weapons that are part of the dogma? Can't war priests of Tempus use ANY weapon? If Moradin wants his priests to be able to use axes, I'm sure they can!!! Or not, since his holy weapon IS the soulhammer..hmmm...I suggest someone might ask HIM, if they have the...gumption....to ask...hehehe

"A cleric who chooses the War domain receives the Weapon Focus feat related to his deity’s weapon as a bonus feat. He also receives the appropriate Martial Weapon Proficiency feat as a bonus feat, if the weapon falls into that category. "

That would apply to tempus priests who chose to pick War. Though in FK they receive Protection & Prowess - there is no war domain.

War doman would also then apply to Corellon, and Tyr as well. Though they both have the "prowess" domain in FK. And since prowess domain doesn't exist in 3rd ed it's safe to assume prowess was switched to war through the additions explaining why it isn't in the game.

I'm with Belose on this one. Most deities have a "favored" weapon. A priest, while perhaps not receiving instant proficiency in that weapon, most likely should have the /choice/ of training that weapon skill. For example, I think Corellon's favored weapon is the longsword, Moradin's the battle axe, and Gruumsh is a...spear, I think? (No book sources at hand.)

The option to train those weapons does exist in the form of the Weapon Proficiency feats. Just as in D&D, if a cleric wishes to wield the favored weapon of his or her patron, he or she would have to invest a feat point into it.

It is, however, a bit difficult to find someone that can train the right proficiency in this game. Sure Corellon's followers can get it. What elf isn't proficient with longswords and bows? But maybe it would help to have an appropriate trainer in major temples to the other deities? Like a high priest of Moradin that offers to train warhammer proficiency feat(s)? For Gruumsh, a trainer that grants the polearms proficiency feat?

Though, to be fair, one would likely have to do the same for all the faiths out there.

Just a quick note - priests of Cyric get to use double edged blades already, so I guess the precedent is already there ^_^

(Though obviously the priests of Cyric are FAR cooler than any others ;))

I thought it was common knowledge Cyric priests were vastly superior to all others? :D

A lot of priests seem to get a weapon or two when they get faithed. Priests of Torm get great blades, for example. However, priests of Moradin get no extra weapons beyond what's normally allocated for a default, faithed priest.

This is a roleplay-driven MUD. I've seen varying sources (FR source books, mainly) state dwarven (at least shield dwarves in the north) clerics will use axes of all variations - the reason being that the axe is a staple of dwarven culture. With dwarven RP being tougher than most, I think it would be a nice little reward if priests of Moradin could use axes without having to use a feat point or two.

This could perhaps be given to all shield dwarves, regardless of class.

I just had to run and check my Official Dungeon Master Deck of magic <cards> because I couldn't remember the names, but I'm still waiting on the Hammer +3 Dwarven Thrower or the Hammer of Thunderbolts!!!! 8)

In any case Moradin's favored weapon is the warhammer, which falls under the category long spikes, with which all clerics have proficiency.

Others powers also have favored weapons that fall under the standard weapons in which clerics have proficiency with, like Waukeen (nunchakus which belong to the chain category of weapons)
