Tormish Stag Hunt

There will be a Tormish hunt for stags at an undisclosed location in the next couple of weeks. I will be unavailable this weekend to organize the event (and the next also actually), but I am curious to hear possible times proposed for the next few weeks. (And, of course, I am not essential for this event and so I would welcome volunteers to conduct the event should I not be able to do so in a timely manner -- I will give you everything that you need.)

This event will be for Tormish members, hopefuls, and the members of other Triad faiths. It will be culminated with a meal (hopefully) and some socialization. Faith issues will be discussed when suitable during the event. The goal here is for the church to fellowship together.

Where are all the enraged rangers and druids harassing the clunky, citified Tormites on holiday when you need them, eh?

We expect a larger druid protest when we start up the fox hunting, and cock fighting.

I love the idea, Drew - and I'm game for anytime I'm not working. But you know how my schedule is, practically week to week. I'm also down for bear hunting with dogs, or coon hunting. I like any kind of hunting where we're pulled along by 15 hog dogs.

Just a warning that you may experience the odd interruption? ;) Depending on how you Tormish all hunt! :D

Hence the undisclosed location to ensure that PETA doesn't show up to disrupt the noble art of venery. We will escape modern mores and nonsense yet! Can anyone do a weekday event? I hate to shut out our one (that I know of) Britain, but a weekday evening (GMT -5, Eastern US Time Zone) is something that I considered.
"Did you ever see anything so ingenious? ...Never did I hear of such refinements of the chase... how perfect he was in the noble art of venery, and how he set the quarry before the hounds."

I think I'd be less worried about PETA and more worried about Malar's cronies ;)

You'd think that the Malarites would help!

Most evenings are fine for me (except most tuesdays, fridays, and saturdays).

On a serious OOC note, since it may be IC for many characters on this MUD to "interfere", is there an OOC request to keep ranger/druid/sympathiser mitts off this event? If so, I think we'll probably look the other way. But if it's completely IC for anyone to show up, then... well, yes. Just basically asking the organiser's preference.

I feel sorry for anyone who busts in on an armed team of Harroghty and Kallias, yow!

Ah, but there's the rub. If Harroghty, Kallias and others are armed/armored to the teeth, there should be no way they sneak up on, let alone run down, a stag.

I like that even the discussion of this topic is spurring rp ideas. Well done.

Many civilized city-states, countries, and whatnot actually have sponsored Huntmasters of Malar who oversee all hunting.

In fact many commoners look to Malar's church to feed them through harsh winters, and Malar's church looks to them for sacrifices and donations within their means during the times that are good.

Granted there might be a population of feral followers who don't care about the status quo and just want to hunt everything they can, and revel in bloodshed.

As far as rangers and druids go, why would they care? It's not like today where everything is farmed and we live off giant cattle pens. People hunt regularly to eat. It's part of life. I can see a druid getting upset if the area was overhunted.

A stag hunt wouldn't be a problem for rangers/druids I think, unless they over-hunted the population. Likewise, it would be of interest if the stag had some special significance. Otherwise, they'd probably just shake their heads and place bets.

It also depends on the character, surely? And how the hunt goes, whether it is particularly cruel/inhumane? I think all rangers hunt, but whether or not they hunt cruelly, is the issue. I'm not saying all rangers and druids will be inherently "WOOW! STOP THIS NOW!" but certainly it is something they might be interested to observe.

Anyway, just wondering what the organisers of the event would rather see? :)

I like that you defer to the organizers. I'm sure they also appreciate it.

I believe one of the organizers has already vocalized what he thinks of modern views for humane treatment of animals in a medieval/borderline rennisance world, and how interruptions are unwanted.

Of course, I may just be very dumb and not understanding the points Harroghty tried to make with that part of his post.

Well, I disagree that it's modern views being added, because nobody here knows what objections may or may not be made, surely, since they haven't been made yet? :)

Also, I don't think you're dumb Isaldur! :) I just wasn't sure whether Harroghty was being tongue-in-cheek and jokey, or deadly serious? That's the reason I asked for the clarification, really.

Tut tut. People are chatting this up and I am out of town and out of touch (mostly). Shame on me to start a discussion and run.

The hunt will be a traditional event and discussed in more detail once we've settled on a "when", however; this will not be knights arrayed in full harness and armed with gleaming weapons thundering through the brush a la Excalibur. I am not even sure who I would find to perform carmina burana.

To satisfy the debate so that we can move on to the matter of event: we will contrive to not publicize the details of this event IC and so I only ask that people would limit their arrivals to those possible IC. Now, should you blunder on the event and it is in-character for you to comment then feel free to do so, but only be aware that honest critiques from a Malarite ("Here, try doing it this way..") and honest comments from other woodlanders will be addressed in good humor if possible and also that, beyond that, the point of this event is for people to have fun. If you feel like showing up to cause trouble, intending to enhance players's fun, and preparing to be mature about it. Okay. If you feel like showing up to cause trouble because you are bored... well, first (out-of-character), let's remember this is a game intended to be fun and, secondly (in character), remember that you will have a large contingent of Tormish there and you probably won't be happy at the end of the day.

Thank you all for the discussion and thank you, Lerytha, for the courtesy of asking.

Shame we loud, bloodthirsty, and constantly fully armored Tempurians can't come. ):

I had planned to be out of town this weekend, but I am not sure that will happen. How do we feel about holding this event on Sunday? Maybe around this time. I am relatively flexible for this weekend. When can the most Tormish attend?
