Joust of Peace - The Emprise of the Travelling Sun

I would like to host another joust event during the month of May. I will decline to name a date at this point due to some schedule issues on the horizon, but I would like mention these things:

1) There will be a joust open to all eligible riders (humans, elves, half-elves, and aasimar not known enemies of the Crown of Cormyr) in May with at least one week's notice.

2) I would appreciate any suggestions of format or events either here or via private message (PM).

3) I am looking for interested co-workers for this event (Sade needs a break from judging and heralds or others would make this more fun). Please post here or send me a PM if you are interested.

Cheers.

Are the race restrictions extended to spectators?

Would we also be allowed to have armigers? (this is technically the latin for Squire but as squires have quite a different role in FK, arms-bearer and squire could be considered different?)

Layna: yes and no. If your character is allowed into Waterdeep than you are probably fine (unless that character's story-line is such where they have become a public enemy). If you have questions, feel free to ask me IC or OOC in the game over the next few days.

Briek: I am considering a squire's event, but we'll get there as the planning develops. Regardless, you will be able to participate with Briek in one event or another.

Just a few questions

1. Will this, like last time be more like a tourney than a stand alone joust with a proper tourney melee.

2. You said about heralds and also there has been new instruments coming in, has anyone thought about having a fanfare team? (eithier bugles B flat or E flat Herald trumpets are normally in a fanfare team)

3. According to what I have read, these events also had a prize-giving dinner at the end where all the riders would sit and eat while the prizes were given out, would this be possible?

I will stop asking questions now :) I think thats enough

My goal is a proper tournament.
2. You said about heralds and also there has been new instruments coming in, has anyone thought about having a fanfare team? (eithier bugles B flat or E flat Herald trumpets are normally in a fanfare team)
I have -in my initial planning- considered more speaking roles. Announcing riders. Declaring the terms.

3. According to what I have read, these events also had a prize-giving dinner at the end where all the riders would sit and eat while the prizes were given out, would this be possible?
Maybe, but I am worried about how long this all would go, you know? Thoughts about how to mitigate the length of the event and include something like that? I considered seperate events. e.g. Tournament on day 1, banquet on day 2.

A two part event could work and according to what I have seen is also quite historicly correct, the problem with it though is finding two days not too far apart that everyone can attend.

Yes, this is very historical. In fact, we ought to have a banquet the night prior and then events over several days. You pointed out the rub though: it is difficult to find one time agreeing, much less several.

I propose this: a one day event with a joust (open to all goodly riders who are human, half-elf, elf, or others by exception), a squire's tournament (open to squires, pages, and sergeants), and then a meal of some kind for interested parties with awards front-loaded to maximize attendance.

Thoughts from you all?

I really like the idea of a meal, but I think that the joust and the squire-event and the meal afterwards will take long hours to be done, perhaps too long. The last joust-thing was very very long :D

I think this is an excellent idea and should attract quite a few players, as for it being quite long I agree but last I believe we had three rounds or more melee in the tournament, could this be cut down slightly for time?

Revision: squire's tournament on one day, joust and meal on another.

Right understand now, I think this would wrok out, because it wouldn't require everyone who attends the joust or squires tournament to be there for both

An announcement is published via courier from the master of the Western Marches at Arabel in Cormyr...
Let all princes, lords, barons, knights, and squires of Cormyr, those parts of Faerun West and East, who are not banished or enemies of the king our lord, may the Gods save him, know that a tournament will be held on this day day on the yard at the Bridge of Fallen Men, in the Western Marches, there will be a great festival of arms and a very noble tourney with lances, rebated [blunted] swords, in appropriate armor, with crests, coats of arms and horses covered with the arms of the noble tourneyers, as is the ancient custom.

High and powerful princes, lords, barons, knights, and squires, each and every one of you, please raise your right hand on high, towards the saints, and all together, as you will in the future, promise and swear by the faith and promise of your body, and on your honor, that you will strike none of your company at this tourney with the point of your sword, or below the belt, and that no one will attack or draw on anyone unless it is permitted, and also that if by chance someone's helm falls off, no one will touch him until he has put it back on, and you agree that if you knowingly do otherwise you will lose your arms and horses, and be banished from the tourney; also to observe the orders the judges in everything and everywhere as they order delinquents punished without argument; and also you swear and promise this by the faith and promise of your body and on your honor.
Scheme of events:
16 May - Squire's Tournament (http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/f ... sec=0&p1=0)

This will be a melee competition open to squires and "sergeants". (This technically would allow almost any fighter or ranger, but I will ask that this competition be limited to squires and lower-level warrior characters in order to make it equitable. Please contact me via private message (PM) or OTELL if you have questions regarding this.) This will consist of matches on killmode stun. Magical armor will be allowed. Mundane, blunted weapons will be provided (clubs and swords). Harroghty will judge this event. I would be very happy if a cleric volunteered to heal the combatants though.

This event is free for spectators and combatants.
17 May - Joust (http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/f ... sec=0&p1=0)

Eligible player characters (PCs) will be:
-a human, half-elf, elf (any type), or others by exception only (feel free to attempt to compete if you are not in these groups, the deception might prove interesting role-play!)
-wearing heavy armor (plate, mail, or a combination thereof)
-riding their own horse (magical or monstrous creatures of any variety are not allowed)
-armed with provided lances, swords, and clubs (no other weapons will be allowed) and a shield (you may opt to not have your PC carry a sword and a shield, but you must only carry one sword in that instance.
-not affected by any magical affects from spells or worn items (so while magic armor is fine, your character may not wear, for example, a magical ring or ioun stone that confers a bonus)

Event rules will be very similar to previous events (using this table), but will be clarified here prior to the event. Each match will consist of three passes with the lance and three passes with the sword. The riders will face each in a tiered system with odd riders out being pitted against the round's highest scoring loser. There will be a five platinum fee (paid at the event, not before) to participate in this event. Spectators may watch for free.

I would like to include a judge and a minimum of two bards. At present, the following people have expressed interest:
Judge: Jaenoic Confirmed
Herald: Quin Confirmed
Herald: Vacant!

Please confirm these roles with me via private message (PM). Others willing may also contact me via PM or OTELL.

This is an open casting call for bards: I would love to have another for 17 May (the joust) and at least one for 16 May (the tournament).
