Rock Gnomes are the gnomes that most people are familiar with.
Unlike their reclusive cousins, the deep and forest gnomes, Rock
Gnomes are an inquisitive, and loquacious people. They are known
throughout Faerun as alchemists, and inventors, as well as
illusionists without peer. They tend to favor rolling hillsides over
bustling cities, but wherever they are they delight in life, and
the pleasures it holds. Rock gnomes are known for their love of
pranks and jokes as well as, like all gnomes, their love of gems of
all kinds. Rock Gnomes in particular have a love for the purity of
diamonds.
Rock gnomes average between 3 and 3 1/2 feet tall and weigh
between 40 and 45 pounds. Their skin comes in many shades of brown
but is not affected by exposure to the sun. Young rock gnomes have
a wide variety of hair colors, though it turns to gray as they age.
Rock gnome wizards, like all gnomish wizards, favor spells of
Illusion above all others, forever using them to play pranks or
misdirect their foes. While not very devout in practice, Rock gnomes
are forever talking about their gods in coversation. They tend to
attend temple once a tenday or so, though many feel that their gods
are always with them, and so they need not bother attending a temple.
