History of Helm

During the Time of Troubles, when the gods walked Toril, Lord Ao trusted the
task of keeping the other deities from returning to their posts without
returning the stolen Tablets of Fate. Helm was allowed to keep his full power
for this task. When the goddess Mystra attempted to pass him without the
Tablets he blocked her, and then when she retaliated he destroyed her in the
resulting struggle. This fight had enormous repercussions for Helm and for
his faith. Though the action did prevent other deities from attempting the
same action. After this, mortals and other deities held Helm in great contempt.
When the Time of Troubles ended, the other gods were restored to their former
existences, and Helm was no longer bound to stand guard against them. Much
of Helm's worship faltered. Only in more recent times has Helm reganted some
of his popularity and respect, as people acknowledge that Helm was only doing
what he had to during the Time of Troubles.
