Steal
Syntax: STEAL coins <target> Syntax: STEAL <object> <target>
The steal command attempts to steal coins, or an object, from a mob or another player. If you fail at stealing you could be reported. This means that you are more likely to be bounty hunted or arrested within cities. In order to steal successfully, you must train the skill. You may only steal what is in another being's inventory. What is worn can not be stolen.
* There are very important restrictions on thievery in FK. Please read the helpfile on 'other people's property' (OPP)
* Stealing from a shapechanged character is forbidden, because when a character undergoes a shape change, all of their equipment is dumped into their inventory. ICly, the equipment isn't actually there to steal...so don't do it!
* Always make a determination as to whether a theft is ICly viable before even attempting it: a sleeping mount in the middle of nowhere would be a fine mark, but a griffon sitting in the Ardeep ranger's grove would not - whatever code may say about your chances. Similarly, large, bulky, or noisy items (including most containers) would be very hard to steal furtively from any conscious creature.
* Stealing from mounts in places amounting to stables, but not coded as such, is forbidden if no coded stable is available in the area.
* Do not steal more than one item from a mount or PC, and never keep entire containers. You *can* (if ICly plausible) steal an entire container, look through it, and then put it back save the one item you wish to keep.
* This skill is affected by the type of armour you wear. Heavier armour will increase the chance of failure in this skill.
* Theft is logged, and thefts that broach these or the OPP rules, hurting the game and its players, will be dealt with harshly. * Do not sell items to merchants and steal them back again. This is not a viable or acceptable money-making system, and will not be tolerated.
