Blingdenstone is the largest of the cities of the Svirfneblin located in the
region of Faerun's Underdark known as the Northdark. Founded in -690 DR, it
was a refuge for Svirfneblin fleeing from the terror of the Phaerimm beneath
what is now known as Anauroch.
The Deep Gnome city of Blingdenstone is a hidden city, protected by both its
secure position and a marvel of engineering and illusion known simply as 'The
Maze'. It is said that one could walk within a few feet of the city without
ever having realized its existence.
Blingdenstone is a city of craftsmen, and the production and refining of
large amounts of precious metals and gemstones has made the Svirfneblin
wealthy indeed. Most Svirfneblin males and a large number of females are
members of the Burrow Wardens, a guild of miners whose reach spreads far
outside of the city.
King Schnicktick is the leader of Blingdenstone, however the monarchy among
Deep Gnomes is somewhat weak when compared to human realms. Large numbers of
wealthy burghers and respected councilors take a part in the active running
of the affairs of the city, though the King tends to have the final word.
Though they do not often engage with outsiders, the Svirfneblin of
Blingdenstone maintain some tentative relationship with the Dwarves of
Mithril Hall as well as the city of Silverymoon. The Drow city of
Menzoberranzan and the Duergar realm of Gracklstugh are their fierce foes and
competitors.
