Plutoch, Painbearer of Ilmater

Plutoch's origins are known only to the gods. As an infant, he was reportedly
found on the doorstep of the library of Candlekeep. A scholar-priest of
Ilmater studying at the library happened to be heading out the door and
spotted the bassinet holding a little child, and brought him into the
library. With no means of identification and no one around claiming ownership
of the boy, the scholar-priest took Plutoch in as his own, raising him as his
own son.

As Plutoch grew, he became interested in his adoptive father's faith. He
studied with the scholar-priest, quickly committing the tenets of Ilmater to
memory. By the age of sixteen, Plutoch had worked with his father, acquiring
the unique ability to suppress his emotions, allowing Plutoch the benefit of
a calmer, clearer mind capable of more focussed analysis and concentration.

Soon after, Plutoch's father decided it was time for Plutoch to go out and
seek other members of the faith and learn from them, to work towards gaining
official acceptance into the church of Ilmater. Studying under the priest
Errys and the cavalier Jaenoic, Plutoch was embraced by his Lord and became
an active member of the church. After many years, and an act of martyrdom
while trying to protect Jaenoic, Plutoch was given life anew by Ilmater, and
granted the title of Painbearer. Ilmater claimed Plutoch's left leg and
requested Plutoch not have it replaced, to remind all of the constant burden
that lies upon everyone's shoulders.
