What to do if you find a corpse

Post by Aldren » Fri Dec 07, 2012 11:19 pm

Hi there.

What do you do when you find another character, dead in the wilderness?

A. Do you know them? If so, you help them out usually!

B. You don't know them?! Oh no! What do I do?
Solution: Post a message in-game, ask around if anyone knows them, try and send them a message. Do something to try and help that player return to life. We all know how much of a pain this can be when your character does not know certain people, is a lowbie without friends, or when playing in off hours.

Please, please, please, don't put a corpse on your horse and log off. Take it to the corpse conservatory in your nearest city and please, please, please help out your fellow player. It will make everyone's enjoyment of this game increase if there are less headaches involved in dying and the process to return to life. Taking a corpse and logging off will give the impression to people trying to help the deceased that their corpse has suddenly vanished or gotten eaten by a crash/copyover/bug.

Thank you.

Yes, to all of this. Though I'm guilty of picking up bodies in lowbie areas and dumping them in the conservatory. I will make a more pointed effort to post notes about that.

But if you are revived/returned to life not in your originally dead body, it's always a good idea to look in the conservatory first before going back to where you died.
For a wounded man shall say to his assailant, "If I die, you are forgiven. If I live, I will kill you."
Such is the rule of honor.

I'd like to reiterate something seen multiple times this month alone. (And we're only eight days in!)

While logging off to preserve a corpse in the past was the usual MO, we now have safe rooms for them. If you find yourself without the time to move a body, please simply leave it where you find it rather than logging off.

Remember, a players return to the living is specifically depending on this corpse, and while your meaning is good it is potentially delaying someone hours of play!

Thanks, guys!

Starting to see a few postings on the message post about finding bodies. I would like to suggest adding a board to the city of the dead / zhentarim hq to post notices about finding bodies. Keeping them separate from the regular note stream. I was going to suggest putting the board in the conservatory, but you can just peek in and check for your remains there.
Justice is not neccesarily honourable, it is a tolerable business, in essence you tolerate honour until it impedes justice, then you do what is right.

Spelling is not necessarily correct :)

Why do we need a new board?

Only if we start posting everytime we find remains and place them in the conservatory. I'm more inclined to just put remains in the conservatory and either wait for the player to log and inform them icly or simply hope they'll check there first. Its sort of a foreshadow suggestion because I saw around 3 notices go up in under a week.

I understand this completely. I only put up a notice or ask around if I do not know the corpse at all. And even then, if the gear looks to be from a younger player, I tend to just put it in the conservatory and let them take it as they learn. I'm not against the idea of notifying, but Gwain is right in saying that the notice board will get eaten up.

Perhaps a command can be rendered to tell the player if their corpse is in a conservatory? Only if it is in a conservatory. That way, the player knows what to expect if they logged off without someone to retrieve it.

And along that line of thinking, is there a way (since we have conservatories now) to stop players from logging with one, or have it drop from their inventory if they do log?
