Roleplay and Game time
Roleplay and Game time
So, I was wondering how close to game time you all play when RPing...
To me it isn't overly important, but I'm curious what the general consensus is on it.
Do you ignore it? An base RP on RL timing, only paying attention to night and day for shops and in game affects?
Do you strictly adhere to it? Making up extensive RP explanations for lost time?
I'd like to know how you guys deal with it,
I'm mainly asking because I'm working on short stories about my characters and I'd like to know if you see in game time as what's happened/happening or if you also come up with out of game story aside from generic "Need to visit the folks." or "Studying at the School of Wonder." or even what one of mine says, "Arguing with the trees about their positions in life."

Re: Roleplay and Game time
Personally I pay attention to it, but it's not a major concern except for major issues. If I was a priest of Lathander, for example, I'd take special note of the sun rising and setting. Things like that.Beskytter wrote:So, I was wondering how close to game time you all play when RPing...

But if there's no real roleplay reason for it, to me paying TOO much attention to the time can be detrimental to roleplay...I mean, normally most characters would (I assume) have a somewhat regular sleep schedule. But I wouldn't stop a good RP to say "I'm tired"...I save that for when I have to go for RL reasons. To me, it's just not nearly as important as roleplaying your persona and your expressions. IMHO.

Re: Roleplay and Game time
I ignore it, mostly... a conversation that takes 15 minutes would last all night, and every time I log off my character disappears for weeks at a time, even if I log back in the next day. My character's age should probably be 60 or 100... I play this game for fun, so I mostly ignore anything about game time I find tedious.
Re: Roleplay and Game time
I adhere to time as a theory, not a law. Usually for me one month equals one year of game time.
Justice is not neccesarily honourable, it is a tolerable business, in essence you tolerate honour until it impedes justice, then you do what is right.

Re: Roleplay and Game time
Sometimes it's cool to play with time--that's about the only time I give it any attention. A conversation over a meal lasting all night is suddenly much easier to make happen, and the details of laughing and joking can be glossed over. The framework of 1 month = 1 year is interesting, and it covers long absences well, but otherwise I don't pay it much mind. I find myself referencing the current RL season more often than the in game one, too, but it helps to note weather echoes.
Jamais arriere.
Re: Roleplay and Game time
All good points, I do like the 1 month = 1 year idea and I'll most likely go with that.
I guess it would be rather tough to play FK if we all strictly adhered to the time. We'd get two words in and that's without smotes or poses.
I do pay attention to the in game weather though...it would be nice if there was some physical effect to us aside from fire going out faster than normal.

We used to have stages of the moon throughout the in game months, those disappeared a few years ago, they were a nice thing for the rp of tracking time, I'd love to see those back.

I thought we did have stages of the moon...
Odd times of the day and night, but I see echoes for the waxing moon rises, the waning moon sets, the fool moon rises then sets...
It would be cool to see my character echo shivering due to cold if a blizzard cooks up. Or baking in his plate mail during summer days.

We still have those echoes. But when you used to type weather you would see a full moon, a half moon, a sliver...etc. I like the idea of weather affecting us with those echoes.
