We already have spells like magic weapon and weapon of energy. And we have a light spell which can be temporarily applied to objects. I was thinking it might be interesting to expand on these, thinking of classes like swordmages, knightmages, spellblades, and hexblades.
What if we had spells that temporarily added some of the weapon flags to weapons or special resistances to armour? Make your blade temporarily fast or vampiric, temporarily detrimental to constructs or undead, or maybe a small chance of cursing/famishing (or whichever spell cast on) the enemy. You could have armour that is temporarily resistant to sonic or magic piercing damage, or some of the other applied affects like added strength or levitation.
The main idea is spells that act like light, temporarily invoking an existing coded property onto the item in question. I think this would be a great addition to the game, offering more diversity and flavour balanced against a rationed time limit. I would however also ideally see this mostly in the hands of enchanters and bards, bolstering these either less powerful or less utilized classes. This would add elements of enchantment to the game, as well as mimicking classes like the aforementioned swordmages.
