That is what a High Priest or Priestess would be.

Every faith has a position of High Priest/Priestess. Some Deities also have followers who hold an ICly important position in the faiths besides. There are also the various heros and well known characters such as High Knights, Wardens, High Mages etc. A good help file to look into is HELP HEROS

What I mean is a person who is given control of all other followers besides the gods themselfs

A High Priest is the mouthpiece of their gods. They talk to their gods regularly and do mortal things for them. :)
