Herblore

Not sure where to post this, but I thought I would anyway, as I have a spare moment due to the MUD being down... well, here goes:

Apparently, working herbs will be coming into the game eventually. Now, having read quite a bit on Forgotten Realms' herbs, I was wondering whether the herbs will be available to everyone.

If so, is there a way to make sure that OOCly, everyone knows that certain herbs affect certain races specifically... not sure how IC this is, so I will not mention any specifics, but I could see situations theoretically similar to this:

You are a slug, and you find a bowl of salt. Now, ICly, RPwise, you might find this salt, and eat it, because OOCly you do not know that it would kill you to eat it...

Does anyone know what I mean? I hope I have made myself slightly clear... in my opinion, humble as it is, I think there should be some sort of OOC avenue to let the PC know that if they eat a certain herb, they will act a certain way, without letting them know ICly.

Or, will there be code that will cover each herb's specific affects on race/gender, etc? If code can do that...?

Just a thought.
If you have knowledge, let others light their candles with it.

In my opinion, herbs should be avaliable for anyone to use but only nature based classes/faiths should be able to identify them without using them. (A skill or spell for those close to nature to use). Anyone can take a guess as to what something does after using it, but only someone who spent years in nature should know for sure.

As for ic/ooc info. There are already a number of plants and herb stuff in game. OOC, from my overall experiences with all my characters, I know what pretty much all of them do but each character only knows what they encountered before. Pretty much the same rule for any item in the game.

Not Sure if this answers your questions much, if at all.
