Warriors and Riposte

Post by Sean » Mon Oct 06, 2003 10:57 pm

I was sitting one day, and I noticed riposte the skill. I knew what it was in acuality (I swordfight as a hobby) but the urge struck me to read the help file on it. It says 'This is a chance of counter attacking when you successfully parry.', which makes perfect sense. Then I looked at the list again and realized something... Warriors do not have Parry. Why is this? Is the help file incorrect, or should warriors have parry or not have riposte, or what? Just wondering.

Actually warriors do have parry, it is listed in my warriors guild list on the site when I brought it up, riposte is a fencing move and that is all I know, though mayhaps it means a quicker parry or one without any lag or restrictions to movement. Not really sure on this, but just offering any help that can be fathomed

Riposte is when you parry a blow, redirrect their blade, and get and attack in while blocking at the same time. There is acually a whole science behind it, but it is easiest to think of it as a counter... Glad the game doesn't get any deeper, there are names, stragities, and techincal definitions for them all the way up to the counter of the counter of the counter of the oringinal strike (I think there might be one more too).

But as far as warriors having parry, it isn't on my skills list...

Skills for Warrior: kick, swim, dig, aid, cook, ignite, mount, enhanced damage, handle animal, listen, second attack, climb, concentration, third attack, punch, bash, search, rescue, spellcraft. riposte.

Don't see a parry there... Or maybe I am just buged?

And on the site? There isn't a warriors guild thing. It has the Warriors guild's subcatagorys. Where you looking at Fighters?

Base Warriors do not have parry skill. The guilds a warrior can join give the parry skill: Fighters Paladins and Ranger. Barbarians do not have parry listed as far as I can see.

If riposte requires parry skill first as the help file suggests then perhaps some skill lists need adjusting to reflect that. Thieves have riposte and no parry skill.

Riposte and thieves

Why is it that thieves have access to the riposte skill, but not to the parry skill that enables a person to make a riposte?

Riposte

Post by Aegin » Mon Jul 19, 2004 2:39 pm

When I look at help riposte, it gives me this: This is a chance of counter attacking when you successfully parry.

However, when looking at skills lists, there are some classes that have this listed as a skill, that do not have parry listed (such as bards).

Will it still work, or is that a goof?

I believe this was addressed in a recent code change. Many guilds had skills revised to reflect things pointed out in a thread which Tyr posted just before the new version came in. I cant recall its name and location right now, but its up there somewhere :D

Chances are that the very overworked staff have not yet had time to update the guild lists showing on the website
Remember, should you encounter an angry Dragon and your only company is a Halfling...
...you do not need to run faster than the Dragon, only the halfling.

It's a wolverine, not a skunk... sheesh

Ah, that would explain it.

Good to know.

Er...not that the coders are overworked :P

Near as I can tell parry was added to the base rogue guild list already and yet awaits to be added to the bard and thief guild list.
