manasurge
manasurge
This could probably be coded as either a skill or a spell. The idea behind this is that a cleric, druid or mage can transfer some of thier mana to another. How much mana is transfered would be based upon the skill level of the one transfering mana. The side effect of this transfer will be that they are unable give mana to someone else, nor receive mana from anyone else for a period of time. Could also be dependant on the skill level or even just made for one ic day.

That would not be a forgotten realms thing, though.
The thing is, the mana is taking the place of the fact that the spellcasting classes can only memorize so many spells per day. Don't know if they are going to hardcode that to change, as it sounds daunting, but if you look at it that way, the sharing of mana makes no sense.
For example, mage A is only supposed to be able to cast 10 spells a day. If mage B casts all of his alloted 10, Mage A cannot transfer his spells to mage B.
That would be like Greg or Martin looking at me, and all of a sudden I know how to code. Ain't gonna happen.

I tried to embrace my feminine side, but
it filed a restraining order against me.

Since when can a mage only cast 10 spells a day? And when did a limit on memorization come in? As for transferring mana, there is a spell. Mud is down, so I cannot get the helpfile. Restore mana. But someone has cast it on me, giving me more mp. Being a spell they lost mp. So basically it is transferring mp from someone to someone else.

Beshaba potatoes.
I do not really see the point with this skill/spell or whatever. Seeing as how most all mages or priest have the alility to regenerate mana quickly via the meditate skill. So it would be just something that would take away the coders time that they could be making new areas and fun stuff like that.

Two priests in a large group in a battle.
Mid battle, your tank is blinded, and cannot rescue.
Priest one has a ton of mp, but does not have cure blindness.
Priest two is out, but has it.
Priest one happens to have restore mana. Casts it on priest two.
Priest two restores your tank's blindness, allowing him to rescue your pansy mage or whatever was being eaten alive.
Now, you have a point to see. :)

That's in the official rules, not coded. And 10 is just a nice, round number I picked.Mele wrote:Since when can a mage only cast 10 spells a day? And when did a limit on memorization come in? ~Danica
most go something like 7 1st level spells, 6 second level, 5 third level, etc, etc.
I am kinda a D&D purist, having over 20 years of playing it. Although I say purist, some say geek.

Syntax: cast 'restore mana' <target>
This spell restores magical energies to another by taking your own.

Alright, I can see where that could come in handy now... Thanks Mele
