Can I get some clarification on when to use the functions? I originally used $N in smotes, and then tried @$N based on suggestion, and it's bugged up my work.

Re: $n, $N, @$n, and @$N
I have found it is always smaller case 'n' unless one is using @N, though there are probably more exceptions.
--------------------------------
$n | For targeting and most everything else.
--------------------------------
@$n | Within smotes.
--------------------------------
$N | Never.
--------------------------------
@$N | Never.
--------------------------------
@N | Within Mpechoat and the like.
--------------------------------

@$n | Within smotes.

$N | Never.

@$N | Never.

Re: $n, $N, @$n, and @$N
There is a fairly good break down of this here, but there are some gaps that could be clarified.
Function | When to Use
--------------------------------
$n | generic target for whomever triggers the program (also will identify a PC by name)
--------------------------------
$N | will identify a PC by adjective
--------------------------------
@$n | used for smotes (interchangeable)
--------------------------------
@$N | used for smotes (interchangeable)
--------------------------------
@N | used for mpechoaround (mpechoat would not require a target for one's self)
