If clothes are armor then I rock when I wear glasses
I've noticed for sometime now that clothes... aren't actually on the clothes layer.
Why is this? Or am I missing something?

I trained up double-edged bananas because the uber-plantain of doom I scored from the beehive quest was the best weapon in the game. Now it's being treated like a bug and they have gimped its damage! That's not fair! My character is ruined!

There is not a clothes layer; there are only three layers, over, armor, and under. Clothes can occupy any of those. Armor can only be armor.

I have struggled so much with trying to get my pants on under my armor that I eventually gave up and went commando.
It felt a little strange IC to go find someone and ask them how to put my pants on.

There are a wide variety of underpants available for purchase throughout the realms and beyond.

This must be investigated!

I was kind of getting at that why aren't most clothes on the under layer? Seems kind of what the layer was intended for and would probably facilitate more people making use of them if all they had to do is wear and remove the armor ontop of that.
Unless I'm off on the realism and you really can't wear most of the clothes presented in game under armor?

Let me try again...
There are dozens of under layered clothing options throughout the game world, as well as hundreds of armour layered clothing options for those that may choose to not wear armour, one just has to look around a bit and examine the available wares.

Thats fair enough i suppose, though I would've thought the ratio was the other way around for the sake of giving players the choice.
By making hundreds instead of dozens armor level it just cripples that aspect of the game for me is all.

What I've found is that items which are named to sound like some sort of underclothing often are. "Coarse undershirt" and such.
Things like "puffy waistcoat" simply aren't going to fit under most armors.
If you find something you think ought to fit under armor and it doesn't, then you should bug it. Maybe they just haven't updated all the items yet.
Re: If clothes are armor then I rock when I wear glasses
The three layers are a part of the game's intrinsic code and common to all DIKU MUDs. In general, things like tunics, arming coats, etc.. (i.e. those things mean to be worn beneath armor) are layered as under. If you find objects you believe to be exceptions then please use Game Suggestions (not Bug Reporting) to point those out.

Oh fair enough,
What guidelines should I use though. Cos as of now, I'm unsure what would fit under armor and what wouldn't.
Before I posted this I was pretty sure almost all forms of tunics, trous, pantaloons, and everyday medieval summer wear would fit under even light armor but am now not sure because of previous post?
If there's no defined answer I could always google it I guess?

It will be largely guess and check.

Re: If clothes are armor then I rock when I wear glasses
I hesitant to continue this thread as such because on how vague / different opinions of what can / should fit beneath armor but I thought it was worth a mention that seemingly same types of clothing, in my particular case 2 doublets have different layers, one as armor and the other goes underneath.
So to be honest, I think despite of what I originally set out to suggest / discuss here, I'm just edging towards the notion that people who make clothing should just be a bit more consistant I guess.

Re: If clothes are armor then I rock when I wear glasses
That hardly makes sense. :) I could fit a cotton doublet under chain, but not likely a velvet. That's normal. There's really not a need to be so picky about the little things, they function there's options and they hurt nothing. :)
Beshaba potatoes.

They were both silk..., but yeah, I do tend to get picnickity.
