Who are Griffon's meant for?

Who are Griffon's meant for?
As in the subject, I was curious whom griffons are actually built for. Were they meant as a perk for paladins to travel around faster since the trainers have a cha requirement?
I trained up double-edged bananas because the uber-plantain of doom I scored from the beehive quest was the best weapon in the game. Now it's being treated like a bug and they have gimped its damage! That's not fair! My character is ruined!

Griffons (in multiple forms) are available to any character class, regardless of hometown or stat requirements (depending on which ones you are referring, which probably need not be discussed in detail).

Thanks for the info then, Been looking for some time and had only been turned away from the NPCs that sold them thus far.

How did you find out the seller had a charisma requirement?
