This pleases the Alitar.

This also pleased me. In D&D 3.5 rules, there are three variant paladins. There are Paladins of Freedom, Paladins of Tyranny, and Paladins of Slaughter. They are CG, LE, and CE, respectively.

I've played all of them in tabletop, and let me tell you, they just don't make as much sense IC as a regular paladin. They are always the most fun to play, for me.

Playing your character as if (s)he were a knight, even though (s)he may be lawful neutral or lawful evil, would be really quite satisfying. Two characters that pop into mind that embody this are Nerian and Diritas. They embody evil knights for me, and they don't even need the title to be intimidating.

*edit* corrected spelling of Diritas
Benorf the Stout, Axe of Torm
Formyndare Mastare, Horn Guard of Yondalla
Thaien Ellbrecht, Planar Interviewer

All of the above to a T. I love both characters for that. I've never mentioned this out loud before publicly, but there was once I was reading back to old logs and I wasn't even on the mud at the time (I didn't even have internet access!), and I saw "Nerian walks in from the east." and my heart jumped and I internally went "Os-" before I realized I was reading a LOG.

I've had the same thing happen with Diritas. Those two...kudos, kudos, kudos.

Paladins as they are are quite good. If they expand, it would be nice, but at the moment there's maybe 5-6 active paladins. By active I mean ones that log in every other month or very actively. And I think that number's generous.
For a wounded man shall say to his assailant, "If I die, you are forgiven. If I live, I will kill you."
Such is the rule of honor.
