Sianghams
Sianghams
Can the chance of getting those be reduced? I keep getting them as quest rewards when none of my characters would even fit in their rp with using them.
I suggest they be kept as rare, and on the other hand the chance for magical short swords be increased. I have yet to see a magical short sword.
Certainly it is pretty odd to see so many masterwork sianghams so far away from Kara-Tur.

Oh, I don't know, adventurers have odd tastes but yes there should be more short swords than these things.
I'd be in favor for removing the need for the exotic weapon feet entirely.
FK's exotic weapons don't provide the trip / disarm / sunder bonuses they would usually. Nor do we have any higher damage die double weapons like the orc double axe.
Far as I know, there are no mechanical advantages to any of these weapons apart from bastard sword and katana. And they come with their own minor problems.
A compromise would be to keep these two
under the exotic prof banner whilst making all the rest, whips, nunchucks etc non exotic. after all. I feel like very few of these weapons we would consider eastern actually come from the east. Scimitar for example isn't if I remember a classical european weapon and yet that has no exotic prof needed for it. There are monkish orders of Shar, ilmater and I think Loviatar as well as non religious orders dotted all over from the central heartlands to Damara etc that would use nunchucks and we even have a few Cara-tur characters running around. I'm fairly certain they wouldn't consider the katana or naginata an exotic weapon.
It seems to me to be a case where the tabletop hasn't translated too well to this platform.

I trained up double-edged bananas because the uber-plantain of doom I scored from the beehive quest was the best weapon in the game. Now it's being treated like a bug and they have gimped its damage! That's not fair! My character is ruined!
Re: Sianghams
Yeah, what is an exotic weapon should really be reconsidered. IMHO the only ones worth the feats are the ones you mention and dwarven war axe (which I have never seen around even as mundane).
I still remain of the opinion, though, sianghams are too common in the RMI slot machine.
I don't joke if I say I got as many sianghams as probably all other weapon types put together. It would make sense for "exotic" weapons, even when they are not so exotic like a kukri, to be uncommon in their chances of being obtained.

Re: Sianghams
I feel the same about charisma cloaks! I have only ever gotten one siangham. But on a recent character I must have gotten at least 7 or 8 charisma cloaks so far.
It does seem at times that the RMI isn't so random.

Maybe the game just thinks you're pretty?

Re: Sianghams
As someone that has never received either, I have to say that the random reward system would probably be better served by a reduction in wands and potions than cutting out exotic weapons entirely.
Justice is not neccesarily honourable, it is a tolerable business, in essence you tolerate honour until it impedes justice, then you do what is right.

Never proposed that. I proposed to reduce them.Gwain wrote:than cutting out exotic weapons entirely.
Agreed on wands and potions. Probably wands should just be obtained through PC-crafting, or at least be rare. Potions already are, so moot point, other than having fancy bottles. And fancy bottles are not exactly precious and could be obtained by a mob for some coin.
Re: Sianghams
Another idea would be to increase the variety of rare exotic weapons that pop in an rmi situation. That way we could increase the demand for training specific exotic weapon feats.
