Door resets and trap code

I was looking to apply a trap to a door. The builders lessons state that I should put the trap reset under the reset of whatever it is that needs trapping, which would indicate I need to put a door reset in.
I have read the builders lessons on door reset a couple of times, and unless I am blind (which can often be the case) It seems to me that in the reset you set the door to either the open or closed state, where I wanted to leave the door in whatever state it was in as the room it opens to is used for RP purposes.

Is this possible or am I reading things wrongly
