Request

Post by Elrior » Wed Dec 22, 2004 9:41 am

Sorry if this has been covered somewhere else in the forum, but Is command request able to be trained? Is there a way to improve your chance? Do you stats determine the outcome or is it completely random?

No, I dont beleive the command itself can be trained.

It is, as far as I know, dependent on your charisma, and can be affected by training certain feats. Perhaps it is also level dependent?

This is merely from my experiences with the skill, though I have never had much luck with it except in a few certain cases.

If I had to guess I would say that your Level, charisma, and luck have the most to do with it. But that is just a guess.

And the alignment of the mob you are requesting from I believe as well..

Not to worry, I dont have the intention of using it as a source of income. And usually I use it rarely except for recently. I have been trying to figure out how it works..But thanks to everyone that posted I now have a better knowledge of it..Thanks again

On the same note, is it wrong for an evil character to demand stuff from NPC often? I can see it being rped as they are holding up someone they meet and demanding items from them. I can understand not to do it every time you see someone, but it seems to be something inside thier RP.
Thoughts?

I would think only in certain places, and only if it was within the said character's roleplay to do it. Otherwise in large crowds ( i.e: Market Square, City Streets etc ) I would say its a bad idea, because there are always citizens around to report a mugging to the nearest city guard. I think it has about the same limitations as request does, if the correct RP is applied.

...Is there any option for neutral characters, along these lines?

...

Wouldnt neutral characters just have a choice of using either/or?

Yeah... I guess. If your character's in a good mood then 'request' can be used. But if he/she's really angry or frustrated(or feeling anything like that), then demand. Or... if both of these don't work cause your character isn't scary enough, you can always kill them like Telk mentioned earlier. *cackles*

Any character can use either of the commands. However, the usage affects your 'hidden' alignment - Using request will raise it in the 'good' direction, using demand will raise it in the 'evil' direction.

Neutral characters can choose either or, but due to restrictions, it wouldn't work.

Main RP reason is because a neutral character is too indifferent. They wouldn't carry out the threats of demand because they don't believe in killing innocents. Request is on the same lines, as neutral characters don't go "out of their way" to actually help people -- So why would someone go out of their way to help the neutral? (Such as giving up a possession)

Thank you Cyric, that's what I was looking for.. I was pretty sure it wouldn't work for neutrals, just wanted confirmation.

Actually, most of the time I've tried to use request, it didn't work much.. and I only do it 97% of the time to try and get back something I gave the NPC's by accident...I usually have to hope an IMM or NC person is on who can help get back that quest item you gave in the wrong order or some such..heh...don't you just HATE that?!?!?!

There are some code modifications on the way (no ETA though) that might make it so that this kind of mistake won't happen anymore.

Has request been re-implemented into the game after it was taken off?

Request has not been taken out of the game just the values for the items have been changed when they are requested.
