Shar
Shar
I made a new char recently and i decided that I wanted to eventually follow Shar. It seems though alot of the help files and heroes list, little is known about Shar on this mud as far as a PC history goes. It also seems that way in alot of novels other then what I've read about the Shar vs Selune battles that not alot is known about the secret faith of Shar. Any one have some insightfull ideas or good resourses involving Shar roleplay of priest and faithful?
The book Faiths and Pantheons has about three pages worth of info on Shar. It's fairly new and you can find it pretty easily at any store or from Amazon BnN or other book stores. I think the book also has details on one of Shar's temples ( I don't have the book on me right now though, so it could be a different deity ) and it may unlock some more clues about Shar's faith.

The 2nd Edition books seem to have more information on lore and stuff than the 3rd edition books. While 3rd Edition has a lot of "meat" in it, I tend to think that 2nd Edition books actually have more story involved.
Faiths and Avatars is probably the best example of this... In comparison it is far superior to Faiths and Pantheons... But ah well. Either way, Shar has a lot of story involved especially in 3rd edition. Shes a fun deity. If you need any information on the deity (like if you can't purchase the book), either send me an email or drop me an IM. I can type up some of the information for you.

I have given him what I could from the Faiths and Pantheons book, but I'm sure any more would be appreciated. It's encouraged me to read up on her a little more, and I'm inclined to agree... It seems like a lot of fun

As an avid follower of Shar I too looked for much information as I could regarding the diety and the best source I found was the Faith and Avatars book. It covers all the general basics, as Shars portfolio's and powers do cover a wide range of general charecteristics, so I suggest giving that a good read and going from there.
The only other good source I found was from the game Icewind Dale 2. I read the books in the game that were history relasted (ie. just idle reading) and there were many that dealt with the creation of Realmspace by AO and the conception of Shar and Selune and their first battle that created Mystryl. I no longer have the game, but if someone who has it can access its files and get the parts I mean, I remember that it did cover alot of what Shar was about, and her attitudes to Toril in general as well as how she felt about other dieties. It gave me a much greater insight into which Portfolios she is most fond of and what her overall goals are.
Just an Idle thought. I look forward to meeting you in game
(although not as this charecter oibviously

Let's admit it, everyone worships Shar at one point in their life. She's practically the poster goddess for angst ridden emotional spiked teenagers.
As for Shar herself, she's one of the more popular gods in 3e for evils to follow or at least pay some sort of homage to in order to become Shadow Adepts. Then there's the city of Shade, yadda yadda. While I'm not too keen on the actual novels that deal with Shade (Except for that one book full of short stories) I will say this, evil gods are making a comeback in novels.
Shar is not only in the 4 novels dealing with Shade, but she and Mask are also in the Erevis Cale trilogy (Only one book is out right now). I'll refrain from spoiling anything but the trilogy that deals with Erevis is a fun read so far, especially because most books simply do not deal with clerics of evil gods in depth.
So don't listen to Calandria, why when did you even see anything fun in novels or sourcebooks related to Selune huh? *thbbtttpppttt*

If anyone wants to know how Monks of the Dark Moon act, or in general just how insane worshippers of Shar really are, a good novel to get is "The Black Bouquet" by Richard Lee Byers. It also has a ranger of Ms. Autumn that doesn't dual wield weapons, and shows a good portion of how a lawless city's underground works.
