I was wondering if a feat could be given at character creation, similar to the first feat from DnD 3.0/3.5/3.55.. (oi).
The player could use one feat from the whole list of feats. This could vary rp background and skill sets.
If not given freely, perhaps the option to spend some kismet on a character creation feat?
Just a thought.

The nature of the code is such that players receive a feat point rather than automatic access to the feats available - feats are then trained with a suitable NPC.
All characters receive a feat point at level 1 which is the MUDs equivalent of the character creation feat, though trainers within the Newbie temples are limited to being able to train just one of three as noted above.
There are a number of hometown or racial feats coded which could possibly be trained by NPCs in the Newbie area and reflect what you are asking for. This would be in the good graces of our builders though
