trade lag

Post by Eltsac » Thu Aug 24, 2006 2:23 am

I wondered if mining could be made like construct (create armor / weapons).
In such, i mean that instead of typing mine, having a mine message and then a lag durint which you can't do anything, you would get a 'start mining' message, a short time, and then an 'en mining' message, making the mining as long as now, but between the two message, even if you can't move or do anything, at least you can talk with people around you (more possible to mine at several people while chatting / rping a little) or even if you are alone check at help files or things like that instead of staring at your screen (and trying not to fall asleep :p).

It's just an idea :)

Time lag for mining is significantly less than for smelting or armour/weapon construction (more so when the mining attempt fails).

This is probably why the ability to smote, talk, look etc was not included within it.

but then you type mine many many more times than construct as it often fails. And all mine lag put all together, it makes a long time of screen staring :)

Maybe make the mine trade longer (take time to find the vein and all), but with more success chance at the end, and some usable time meanwhile...

Simple... do something useful, like roleplaying or interacting with others instead of spam-training mining!

oh well, my idea was just to allow several dwarves to mines together and be able to rp at the same time, make mining less 'spam-training', but it's no big deal.

Well, that would allow dwarves to mines and roleplay at the same time, because right now they can do one or the other but not both at the same time. I agree it could need more dwarves, but then it would be fun to organize mining expeditions and such. Because mining is for me one of the main dwarven traits (hence the rush you get from everyone when arriving in Waterdeep: Sell me ores! Sell me ores! .. oh you're not a miner? You're not a real dwarf then, folllowing things.. just go back to Mithril Halls and never go out again.), plus it needs so many ours to be able to do correct piece of armour than if you want to be a crafter you have not much choice.

But now, if dwarves were able to roleplay while mining, it would be more fun.

I've roleplayed while mining before, several times with several different people. It's easy, you just don't hit mine seventy thousand times in a row... Instead hit it three or four times, put your smote in, cast a prayer or two, mine a few more times... It's not hard as it is. You *can* break up those chunks of mine x 25. ;)

It's what i do... just thought it would be easier to use the system that don't have those lags in chat / RP

I agree with Argentia... anything can be broken up with RP.

Fighters primarily fight, thieves primarily sneak or hide or steal lol etc.. everyone has something they could "spam train" and say "well it is what we *do* " I dont think we need to start changing the code for trades so that people can spam away and twink up a skill while chatting and thus GM a trade quickly while rping...

Sometimes you have to chose... and I think Argentia makes and excellent point. It is along those same lines as if you have a large party on and adventure you dont just stand around killing non stop, you RP as you go. So, when you have more than one dwarf...you mine a little chat a little drink a little etc. lol lots of fun and RP be had that way I am certain.. even if your mine trade will not GM as fast :P

But then... I dont have a dwarf right now...cause I would rather gouge out my eyes then spend part of my rp time typing the mine command lol

No need to add this in really since no where in the preceeding posts is there any reference to twinking or spamming (Unless you count Dal's well-known frank opinion on Trades :)).

There was no request to reduce the lag, merely allow smotes and says during the period of lag. Anyone who has ever GM'd a Trade will be able to tell you that twinking and spamming them to achieve this is not really an option.

I agree with the majority of Shabanna's post and her echoing the good points Argentia raised, though. With mining it is fairly easy to pause and talk, or type out the smote or say whilst lagged.

More importantly, unlike other trades, the commands are not barred during the lag so you can 'stack' smotes and says easily enough.

I say the 'majority', because - shame on you Shabanna - no dwarf would ever drink and mine

I wouldn't like it if it were changed. I think it's nice and helpful being able to stack the commands. It's not hard to smote in between mines.

Err... Yeah... We weren't drinking in the mines... What kind of dwarf would do that?! *whistles innocently*
