After some time away and coming back and feeling lost, I made a new character up to try to learn the game again.
The problem is.. I just feel lost. About where to go, what to do.. its like there is so much that I can do I am not sure even where to start.
Are there any suggestions for a level 10ish character in Waterdeep that you might share with me?

As to not give away an IC information here, your best bet would be to MS babysit.
That means sit in the Market Square of Waterdeep and ask for help there. Statements like
"Excuse me. Can anyone help me? Im new here and wish to learn of the areas arround here and possibly earn some income."
or..
"Can anyone dirrect me to some quests arround here?"
things like that let people know you need some help. That dosent mean anyone will help you though.. but its the easiest way.

As I am a strong supporter of not loafing arround in Market Square I would suggest this. Sorry to those who like to do that. I just find it dull. Walk arround what ever town you are in. Get to know the place. Learn where important things are. This will also help with finding quests since there are lots of them out there.
I am ready to meet my Maker. Whether my Maker is prepared for the great ordeal of meeting me is another matter.

If I may follow-up a bit on what Cret said...though not for your benefit so much as for others, as you are not likely to make this mistake as a returning player:
The kiss of death for a new player is the following - tromp around the city exploring, breezing past every other character you meet, saying nothing. Cut through the Market Square several times. Then, when you get stuck, YELL repeatedly, from wherever you are, about what you are stuck on, expecting that someone will walk around and find you, then help you. When someone does arrive, don't introduce yourself, but rather ask your question, like "Where can I buy a pearl?" When this is answered, run off to get the pearl before the PC that showed up to help you has a chance to introduce themselves. Then, when you can't find the place you have been directed to, yell again, demanding directions and complaining that the place is not where you were told it was. Having obtained your pearl, most likely with the coin from the individual that helped you, keep the change, do not seek them out to thank them, and forget who they are so completely that you reply with "Huh?" when they bump into you again and, with their keen memory, think to ask if you found your pearl. This is a great way to make at least one player who cares about newbies not like you, if not damage your reputation more widely. Alas, this seems to be the behavior of new players about 50% of the time. It can get demoralizing for PC's that try to help new players.
In contrast, if I may merge what Cret and Kirkus have said, here's what I think we love to see in a new PC:
Explore on your own a bit. Figure out what you can, but also keep a list of questions. When you have a few that you are stuck on, look around for another character; better still, make the most of a chance encounter upon the streets. Don't assume that they are too important or busy or powerful to want to help you. (I made this mistake as a noob! Most folk, especially in the in the Market Square, are waiting for something to do or someone to help.) Ask, and if they are busy, be gracious if they tell you that they can't help you at that time. A great place to find folks with the time and inclination to help you is the Market Square in Waterdeep. When you walk into the Market Square, do not immediately begin blurting out questions, or even introduce yourself. Arrive silently and observe the situation there. Wait for an appropriate point in the RP that will likely be in progress when you arrive to speak up. Start by introducing yourself, and stating that you are new to the city. Take the time to GREET everyone there - one of the most important things you can learn/gather as a new character are friends, allies, and sources of information! (Even evils can get help in the Waterdeep market square, provided that they don't wear their badness on their sleeves...Tyr knows I've helped many, when they were young and in need.) If someone takes the time and makes the effort to help you, be gracious. Offer the change from the coin they give you (usually, they will tell you to keep it, but at other times they are hurting for it...especially we squires!). Remember their name, and thank them the next time you see them. That's a great way to get off on the right foot, and help your character gain a reputation as a good sort, worth helping.
P.S. I'm assuming that any truly new player will be starting in Waterdeep. I'd strongly urge that! Help from others made it possible for Raona to crawl out of the sewers and begin a new life...she'd likely have perished elsewhere!

I left FK shortly after the new codebase came in and there have been many changes since. Everytime I tried to come back with my old chars I failed because of being frustrated with not knowing the new code amoung other things I'd rather not mention.
This last time I finally decided to just make a new character and relearn everything. I've found the best way to do that is go exploring but be cautious, expect the unexpected and hope you don't die
It also helps to meet new people. Most of my characters recently have met more people on the road rather than in markets.

The very first thing a level ten character should do is visit a small town in the north, called Hartsvale. Near the town are creatures that are very easily taken care of. Head up there and hack and slash your way to fame!
Or...on second thoughts...head to the forest east of Waterdeep, some may call it Ardeep. Light the biggest fire you can, run to a nearby tree, and let your eyes dance as the flames climb high.
Or...on third thoughts...I like to wander the city, talk to mobs, talk to PCs. Maybe ask for an escort to a new city. I think going slow and just enjoying each PC encounter is the best.
Be sure to stop by the market and poke Gwain...(whispers) He's still blind.
Just have fun and make friends!:D
