Meditation
Meditation
I'm not sure if this was discussed on the last board or not....couldn't get my account to work But, I was wondering if there could be a way rangers can learn meditate....the other spell casting classes can learn it. I was just thinking maybe it could be added for a ranger. If this has been discussed before, I would like to get the discussion and look over it.
Only wizards and priests can learn meditate - the other spell casting classes (paladins, bards, rangers) are all in the same boat, mainly because they aren't a primary spell casting class. They kind of tack a bit of magic into their main field of expertise, theivery or fighting.
From what I remember in the old thread, it came to the conclusion that if you wanted it you'd apply for it the same way you get other skills outside your class, using the glory system, but as meditation is higher than a level 10 skill, you most likely wouldn't get it.

On another note with meditating, how does it work for meditating in the square? I've walked into the Market Sqaure many times and just happend to have seen someone meditating, after asking them how they could when it's so noisy, they replied that they didn't have time to move to the next room. Is it 'alright' to meditate in the Market Square?
From what I can tell, meditating in the square is EXTREMELY bad rp. Reason is, how can someone concentrate on their inner energies (mana) with a crowd of people talking, yelling, trading, and bumbling into each other, answer is....they can't. Doesn't take that long to move a room or two over, some people are just lazy and sacrifice good rp because of it. I do think this was covered on the old boards too, one of the imms or NC members posted about it being not allowed or something. Anyways, its bad rp and should not be done.

I would agree with Nysan about meditation in the square during the day, but at night the trading and general hustle and bustle would die down. Normal citizens would be at home with thier families. The only people that would be out and about would be adventurers. And if noone is in the square then I would consider it a nice, quite, secluded spot to meditate.
I am ready to meet my Maker. Whether my Maker is prepared for the great ordeal of meeting me is another matter.
Gets to be habbit forming Besides the city watch would pass through regularly on patrol and disrupt, perhaps even forcefully, vagrants sitting on the fountain after midnight. Also the ever-present guard might not be able to tell if you're meditating or sleeping while sitting up. Just generally a bad idea to meditate in the Square.
Perhaps a small prog on the guard, which sends an echo the player on an attemtped meditate that discourages them?
"The Market is too noisy for you to meditate here"
"The guard frowns disapprovingly at you as you go to meditate. You move on"
Etc, etc.

Yes, I have seen people in the square meditating and thought this very strange because I have never been able to before. I tested it out once while another character was meditating in the square and it gave me the little message that maybe i should find some place quieter.
