Switching characters

Post by Sindri » Wed Jan 10, 2007 1:50 am

Sorry if I missed the answer to this someplace, but I was wondering: is there a way to log off one character and log on another without completely leaving the game?

This was brought up in another thread, but I'm too lazy to link you, so instead: No, there's not. :)

It was discussed originally and it was found that the coding behind such a change was too extensive or could cause too much stress to the mud itself. I do not know the technical details but I assume if it was possible it would most likely be a feature. I think it would be the strain to the mud itself, that it might create lag with loading and reloading of character progs or spam. I would not worry to much for it though, the account system makes it so you only have to have one password for the vast plethora of pc's you may have, so you can easily log in and out into a new one. No problem asking about it though, it is still and intersting thing to discuss...I can't even find the old discussion myself :)
May you find the knowledge you seek. If you find something else, it is still knowledge, and as such, still a gain.

There was also a concern around account security. For those playing in a shared environment, not having to re-enter a password each time you switched might increase the danger of yoru characters being compromised.
