When old meets new. Which rules apply?
When old meets new. Which rules apply?
Far in the past I was allowed to have two seperate characters in two seperate organizations. At the time it happened, this was allowed for these two organizations in question. Now, according to the help files it is not.
I asked in game what can be done and if one of my alts could be deleted without losing kismet to comply to the rules. I was told to post here because the one who answered believed those specific rules were abolished and was requested to post here to find out what the rules are currently and what would be required to comply.

Under the previous administration the ruling on this was that on applying to join an organisation - The Zhentarim, Harpers, Shadow Thieves, Night Masks etc ets - they could not then have a second character join an opposing organisation.
For players who were privy to a wider knowledge of the game this rule was sometimes relaxed and this would seem to have been the case for you.
Currently, organisations as a whole are under review. The guild masters and recruiters of many are players that have fallen by the wayside over time.
My opinion only (so this may be subject to later clarification) but I see no need for a character to be deleted or not played. Provided you do not abuse the knowledge learned on one alt for the benefit of the other then there is no conflict.
The ruling about alts in opposing organisations still stands, hence the help file, but this may again be subject to change when we get around to discussing organisations once more

Why would your character have to be deleted? Can they not just expell one of your oppsing characters from one of the groups? It seems simple enough. and ICly I do not think it needs any more explanation than there is when a character is banned and you have to go along with their absence. Though you could RP being removed or something I suppose??? Of course, the truth is they are "secret organizations"... lol so it is not like every player in the game is going to be saying " Ohhh I hear you were kicked out of the harpers!" ( for example -- since I have no idea icly what organizations you speak of.)
Personally I think there was a REALLLY good reason... that people should not be involved in opposing groups I am sorry.... but there are a lot of people who would share with their "friends" and I do not mean YOU personally Nedylene... Since I do not really know you ICly or OOcly at all. I simply am stating the fact that there are some who could not resist the temptation to use info from one char to another and I think it is best to not put ANY people in that situation.( I have seen it happen with people who have a several characters and forget where they heard stuff etc...and they use info they heard with a different character:P ) I am actually one who believes that we need to spread out FMs and High Priest positions more so that there are fewer that double up for that very reason. I think the less CHANCE we allow for conflict of interest the better. I think it puts good people in a sticky, tempting situation...
maybe that does not make sense but that is my 2 cents...

For the specific organizations in question they are not opposing. IE it is not the Zhentarim and the Harpers. =)
Simply for deletion because I am unsure if I would want to rp the second character without her ties to the certain organization for ... uh IC purposes? It is a little too close for ooc/ic information to put the exact reasoning here. Needless to say at the time of this characters creation she was designed simply to be a part of this specific organization and was one of the original members. Not that it matters as everyone from that time is now inactive.. She's just a nobody now so it would not hurt to give her up if it would comply with the rules.
Make sence without being specific? Doubtful but I can try =)

Hm... well because I really know nothing about the char and for IC reason we can not go into it here. I would offer up this... in the event that the rule stands that you can not have two chars in special organizations...
Because you created a char JUST for this organization...I understand that it would seem hard to RP her outside of that. HOWEVER.... you might be surprised? since the organizations are fairly hush hush, I would think you might be able, with some good/ interesting/fun RP, to breathe some new life into an old dusted off character? Never know what sort of lemonade could come from that lemon. Then if it seemed not to work... you could delete her. Always a shame to just delete someone cause the RP is not what you hoped or intended. Some of the best RP comes from unexpected changes
And of course... I am no one of any great importance lol so anything I say is really just me blithering what I think. lol I am sure that the rule was originally intended to keep opposing situations from happening and your particular situation... was not the reason the rule was put in place. In any case, I would advocate not deleting her but instead encourage you to use the situation as an RP tool. Even a president has a limited time in office... surely your char is not unplayable without her organization? (just my thought)

Perhaps I wasn't clear enough
In Nedylene's case, I am saying that there is no need to cease to play and/or delete one of the two characters since permission was given.
However, for those not in her situation, the Help FIle continues to apply and you will generally not be allowed to have another character joining an opposing organisation.
Two characters may join non-opposed organisations - you might have character A in the Spy Guild and Character B in the Harpers Guild perhaps
One character may join as many organisations as will allow him entry, but again, that character could not expect to be allowed to join an opposing guild and in a case of, for example, the Harpers and the Knights of Myth Drannor, it would be up to the leaders of each organisation.

Thank you Lord Death, yes that was much clearer.
Since we are on the topic of special organizations and Kelemvor has mentioned that it is to be discussed, worked on , etc by the admin's and staff, I thought I might ask if the organizations are active much at this time at all? or are most sort of on hold until new plans with them are more fleshed out? It would be great to see some RP generated by the guilds and organizations pop up. Though,I know most are secretive, surely the very nature of them would generate some ripple effect in the rp?

Just a quick question, since someone brought this subject up. It was my understanding in the past that one player could not have two characters in opposed groups such as one in the Zhents and one in the Waterdeep Watch. Is this still the rule or has this restriction been lifted.
I never liked this restriction, simply because yeah it may be easy to abuse the knowledge of whats going on in the other group. But it is just as easy to get caught.
