[SKILL] Fascinate

Post by Vindur » Mon Jun 04, 2007 12:15 pm

A bard can use his music or poetics to cause one or more creatures to become fascinated with him. Each creature to be fascinated must be able to see and hear the bard. The bard must also be able to see the creature.

Attempting to fascinate costs 1 "sing use" and uses the sing skill level to determine its success or failure. It targets everyone not grouped with the bard in the room.

Those affected by it produce an echo like "XXX takes seat and hears $charactername", forcing the affected character to take seat and not being able to do anything until the bard finishes the fascination by typing stop or by achieving its maximum duration possible (determinate by the bard level).

If a fascinated character is attacked automatically loses the fascinated affect and can act freely, regardless of the success or failure of the attack.

Each round no-fascinated characters have to make a check to see if they are fascinated, but they can attack the bard if they wish, a bard must contain concentration all the time and is not able to move (but he can dodge attacks), attack or cast spells, if he is attacked and loses concentration the fascination finishes.

Is this different than the "charm" spell/song? I really don't know.

Charm allows you to give orders, fascinate not. The closest spell would be mass hold person with the BIG difference that attacking someone fascinated ends the fascination, also someone who hasn't be fascinated in the first round, could be it in the followings as long the bard continues trying to cause fascination.

It is also one of the special abilities that I would like to see implemented one day that makes special the bard class and seeing them as a class in their own.

hmm this would seem to me to be more like a hypnotizing..which a bard or some rogues could and would pick up at sometime. Might be interesting rp. Kinda like Regis and his ruby except without the enchanted enhancing effects of the ruby.
You ask 'What is a tri-force?'
Spaki says 'But vessels for godly energies would be hard to come by. Let alone tri-forces.'
Spaki says to you 'Just a word I heard from a fellow with a green tunic.'

Is this similiare to the influence skill or will it only work when bardic singing is in effect?

Code: Select all

Influence
=========
Syntax: influence <target>

If successful, influence will place the victim under your control for
the duration of the spell. While under your control the creature is
your servant, and may assist you in combat and other more minor duties.
Use the 'order' command to give them orders.

Aggressive mobs will lose their aggressiveness while charmed, but will
immediately return to their violent ways when the spell wears off.

This spell/skill is logged because it is subject to abuse. If we find that you
are using the skill/spell to gain too many items you will lose the skill.
Please show some responsbility when using this skill/spell.

 (A) Bard Skills (B) Thieves Skills

Not that a skill like this, the way I observe is that fascination would last longer than an influence round. Am I correct?
May you find the knowledge you seek. If you find something else, it is still knowledge, and as such, still a gain.

It works only when the bardic singing is in effect or the method chosen (telling jokes, juggling knifes, etc) to cause fascination, that should be RPed.

The maximum number of rounds that a bard can fascinate is related to the bard character level, and a creature is fascinated as long the bard is causing the fascination, and he can SEE the bard. (It couldn't be possible cause fascination while hidden or invisible)

Example with PnP mechanics:

A 5th bard level can make his fascinations last 5 rounds, and he decides to start his fascination. When he starts causing fascination nobody is around and so the next round begins, but this time appears a creature that fails the save and becomes fascinated. Since he has become fascinated and he is in the second round he will remain that way until the bard achieves the maximum duration possible of his fascination (He has only 4 rounds left) or until the bard voluntarially ends the fascination and it is before the fifth round, or the bard is unable to continue fascinating because he has been silenced/killed/etc. If the bard stoped causing the fascination in the third round by any of these means mentioned the fascinated creature will lose the fascination.

Hope this example helps.
