Textpad and Mac
Textpad and Mac
Alright so set up my new computer and trying to transfer old files from my PC to my mac. No problem doing it, however, transfering a .are file from textpad into the mac word program makes it come out in a jarbled mess. Really bad jarbled mess... textpad only has a windows application so what now? Is there an equivilant program to textpad for mac computers or I have heard there is conversion software to run windows programs and games on a mac computer. Anyone have the imput and information?

You could use fk builder which works off of java and saves files as '.are'. Here is a link: http://www.japcilkawalk.com/files/FKBuilder.jar You will still need to place it in the same area as fkbit.lst file I believe.

If you want to run windows on your shiny new mac you can download 'Boot Camp' it will partition your hard drive and basically you will load windows into your second partition. But I must warn you... follow the directions! I was running back and forth between home and work and skipped looking at the directions for one insy tinsy little step.. deleated my entire hard drive. But its all better now and runs like a charm.
I am ready to meet my Maker. Whether my Maker is prepared for the great ordeal of meeting me is another matter.

Will answer most of your questions. But you will need a jumdrive that holds 350MB roughly. Not too uncommon these days. Also you will need a full version of windows(XP or later) to install onto the computer, the mac must be intel based and have OS Tiger 10.4
Someone should drag Todd in here, he has alot of exp with Macs.

You might need to find a special text file converter from PC format to Mac format. Actually, I'm just guessing ... I'm not sure what I say here is correct. Windows/PC and Unix systems use different "special characters" to represent end of lines/"stops"; it is quite possible that Mac use a third system (one with /n/r, one with /n, and one with /r).Nedylene wrote:The problem I had is that switching it over it keps all of the text and coding but the spacing was off and alot of the "stops" were linked together into a continuous word wrap type thing. So the files ARE salvagable it would just take me ALOT of work
I use TextWrangler for all my area writing, code hacking and etc. And yes, it does have syntax hiliting, automatic indenting, and all kinds of stuff that make it a very nice tool for mud coding.
I have a syntax file that was a hack job of the syntax file Dalvyn posted for TextPad. I'll see if I can post it in a downloadable format.

You can download the module here:
http://www.infografix.net/FKMudLanguageModule.plist
Once downloaded, make sure you download and install TextWrangler at http://www.barebones.com/products/textwrangler/
Once TextWrangler is installed, go HOME in the Go menu of your Finder, then Library->Application Support->TextWrangler->Language Modules
Copy the above plist file into the Language Modules folder.
Launch TextWrangler
Now, "FKMud Module" should be available as a language syntax in the pull down menu of syntaxes at the bottom of every text file you open or create.

Refer to my post above Nedylene.
You can't use Text Pad to hilite. Won't do it. You have to download TextWrangler (it's free, so no reason not to) and use the syntax file I created.
Mind you, my syntax file may not be up to date, but it works for the most part.
As far as FKCheck, use FKBuilder, as Japcil recommended above. It works fine for me in preflighting area files.

Then make a folder called Language Modules (case sensitive as well) in that folder, then drop the file into it, relaunch the program.
