[AREA] Apartment building

Post by Alvirin » Wed Oct 03, 2007 3:32 pm

I had this idea in my mind for some time.

It would be a building where adventurers can buy a flat, each flat has two rooms; a bedroom with a bed and a storeroom.

All the rooms share the same description, and all the requisites that apply for a dwelling apply to buying a flat. It would have an structure something like:

............................Storeroom
..................................|
............................Bedroom
..................................|
Storeroom-Bedroom-Stairs-Bedroom-Storeroom
..................................|
.............................Bedroom
..................................|
...........................Storeroom

With as many levels with the same structure as judged adequate.

(Please forgive my simple map)

I get it, that's pretty cool.

Why do you not apply to design the shell for it through builders, and it would be an area people could personalize the rooms of and get keys and such for. Unoccupied rooms being empty just your main design, payed for rooms having the desc's change, keys made and such. :)

I'd buy one. :D

A great idea! Why has nobody thought of something like this yet? And it should be possible to do that, I think (correct me if I am wrong).
If I had the money I would buy such a flat as well. Especially if such a building could be build in Waterdeep^^

Standardized housing and apartments have been discussed before. Balek, actually, had a large post on it a while back. I don't know if it was an executive decision made by former staff/management, or just something that was never gotten around to, but it was discussed.

I'm not sure I'm in favour of dwelling with standardized descriptions.

One of the perks of dwellings is to have a house of your own, where you can have roleplay happen, and that is tailored to your character. Gwain's has an organ that plays haunting sounds and a bench whose description he wrote. Miriel's has a map room with maps collected from her journeys; and so on.

I don't think I want to turn dwellings into just an option to store things. They can be more interesting than that.

P.S. Hrosskell, I'm not sure what you want your signature to mean, but "Jamais Arriere" might not be it.

It sort of means "Never Behind" or "never left behind" Scottish warrior family motto I'm not sure which one.

I am for the current dwelling setup instead of flats. Generic houses as was pointed out lack the potential for individuality. I think with all the time and wonderful design that goes into a dwelling, a pc would benefit far greater from having a personalized house. Low income housing flats exist as inn rooms as does a separate storage facility. The personalized houses take a bit of time, but they are worth it.
May you find the knowledge you seek. If you find something else, it is still knowledge, and as such, still a gain.

I seem to recall it's Clan Douglas, but I always preferred the motto jamais derriere myself

Never an arse ;)

it tolls for thee.

(Sorry for derailing it heh ... but

"Jamais Arriere" = "Jamais Arrière" = "Never rear" [does not make sense in French]

or "Jamais Arriéré" = "Never retarded"

"Jamais Derrière" = "Never behind" [this one makes sense])

I can honestly say that my character's dwelling is one of the best things to happen to her RP. It's generated plenty of RP and I just love it so much. Even the little dinky program I have or the extra descriptions or the fact that the furniture is interactive... They just make me warm and fuzzy inside.

I don't really see a standardized room doing the same thing. I'm not saying we shouldn't have standardized rooms, really, I'm just saying... A personalized home is many times more rewarding in my opinion.

I tried to reply to this thread a couple of days ago but my computer fell asleep mid sentance and all was lost....

I think this can be good. BUT. It can't be a perminant situation. In my opinion, a personalized dwelling should be the goal, when it comes to dwellings. But acquiring a place to live for the time being is a necessity.

I see this as giving us a number of added bennefits that not many would realize upon first reading of this idea. First there are some very interesting areas that this would lend to creation.... I forget the name and am stuck at school, but the halfling neighborhood in Waterdeep for one.... Taking appartments in any number of inns...

One benefit, they don't have to be as secure..... Thus you are only trusting that your stuff is safe... I would propose with this a limit to theft be placed on items stolen from pc appartments. This would encourage players to move out as they can just to up the security of their beloved nicknacks.
I am ready to meet my Maker. Whether my Maker is prepared for the great ordeal of meeting me is another matter.
