life span of diffrent races, and RP
I know that many players on FK have humans that are around 70 years old, and yet they can whoop a 25 year old in every aspect. yet humans generally start declining in physical ability much before the age of 70. How do we RP old age? Do we forget about it, and keep rping like we did when our character was 20something? Elves, Dwarves, Gnomes, Drow, and so forth will never have to worry about old age. But, then you have humans, orcs, halfelves, centaurs, and so forth. Are we supposed to RP age?
I guess we'll see what the IMMs say, but I would think that you should be allowed to ignore age if you so wish. My reason for saying this is that I think you should be permitted to RP your character as you want. Obviously, there are limits to this, but I wouldn't say age should be one of them. It wouldn't seem right to me to be forced to "retire" your character into nothing more than another body in the square, simply because you've been around so long that the code says your character is too old to do anything anymore. Some people may like that sort of RP, others may not.
There's my opinion. Feel free to disagree.

Its one of those curious things. We often say, "Oh, I haven't seen you for two years!" (Meaning two months in real life, roughly) But very few of us are actually roleplaying an old age. I know a few rangers and others who are roleplaying getting older, and well done on them for it, if that's what they want to do.
The time-thing on FK is a bit weird. The day-night ticker has to go fast, because otherwise shops don't open, etc. But the drawback to that is that the years go past so fast. Therefore, it makes it less feasible to roleplay out your age as your scoresheet says it. I've always read and been told that age is probably the one thing on FK where you have (almost) ultimate freedom. Obviously, you have to apply to play a really old person or a really young person, but other than that, there's no-one ever going to pull you up for saying you're thirty years old instead of your scoresheet sixty.
Yes, it makes for a bit of a weird RP when the person you used to train with, aged sixteen, is saying they are now sixty and you are still insisting you're thirty. But in those cases, we just agree to ignore the glaring gaps in the illusion. Its similar to pregnancy. Obviously a player isn't just going to be pregnant for nine weeks (nine months IRL). So you often get people asking after you've been pregnant for five years IRL, "How long have you been pregnant?" Its sort of like that. Everyone agrees not to make an issue out of age discrepancies.
At least that's what I've been doing for years.

I've been told that the policy toward age is that it's up to you, the player. If you wish to age your character as it says on your scoresheet, go right ahead but if you feel that you're not yet done with RPing your character as younger, then that's fine too. On two of my characters' scoresheets it says over 50 because I created them some time ago. For one, I enjoy RPing them as that age but for the other I still RP like they're late 20's, early 30's because I feel it's more appropriate to the RP I'm going for.
Far as age goes, yea its up to you. RP the age that fits you (unless its application required like children). For the most part, hieght and weight are similar...only you and imm can really see your score sheet. You don't want to be 5 ft 11 in, don't be...within reason.

Selveem is older. I haven't set a definitive age - just that you see greys coming through. Xaden is still very young. Zareth is also still very young. I didn't age him much at all because I took a very extended break and never got to really roleplay much of his childhood. Goreign is still in his 20s. To me, it all depends on how much you play the character. I don't want Selveem too old to fight. It would kind of just ruin playing him for me.

One thing to keep in mind, if you do choose to age your characters be sure to adjust your description to fit the age. Grey streaks to hair, a wrinkle here and there, ect. A bit odd to play a late 40s, early 50s character that has a description of a 20 yr old.

It's all that Northern weather. Well perserved and whatnot. I am still having a hard time with age. While I'd love to have the old RP with Hrosskell, I find it hard to give up his current RP. The way I look at it (and even though this is a little past due), is like Peter O'Toole in The Lion in Winter. He remarks on being 50 and being able to carry a sword, and still looking good - if he can pull it off, surely my beast of a Northman can.
