Darkvision

Post by Balek » Wed Oct 24, 2007 3:11 am

With the move to 3.0/3.5, many races have darkvision instead of infravision. These races should be able to see in the dark up to a certain distance. Dwarves should be able to see 60 feet in total darkness. Darkvision is only in black and white.

I think a way to implement this would be to eliminate the current inability to see in darkness for races with darkvision, and instead display the normal room descriptions, item descriptions, and character descriptions but with all color codes replaced with a uniform gray color.

To demonstrate the effects of limited vision range, maybe those with darkvision would only be able to see two rooms away instead of four.

Darkvision is in the game, I believe. Don't drow have it?

Gwain raises an eyebrow.
Gwain seems to display a look of complete horror for a second...

I don't know, really. It's been a long time since I've played a drow. I thought that drow had the same infravision restrictions as everyone else.

If I remember correctly, drow when in darkness cannot see room descriptions, but they can see exits as well as any mobiles in the room.

Does this sound familar to what dwarves have?

Code: Select all

If (It does sound familiar)
Drow have infravision like dwarves. Darvision isn't in the game.
Else
Drow have darkvision and it is in the game. Dwarves don't

I just checked, and dwarves get the following echo in darkness:

It is pitch black ...

If drow darkvision works like you say it does, that's a step in the right direction, although I think they should be able to read room decriptions.

Drow have the same thing as dwarves, as far as I've been able to tell. Played both and never noted a difference in dark rooms
