Bake Trade
Bake Trade
I'd like to propose a bake, or cook trade.
I was just thinking, it would be pretty neat to make cakes or cookies or cupcakes, etc. :)
Materials could be things like bags of flour, sugar, and chocolate or something. ;)
Feedback? :D

Beshaba potatoes.
YES! EXCELLENT IDEA! THE BEST IDEA I HAVE SEEN SUGGESTED! Halflings would rejoice, well, at least my couple would. This would be a fun trade and provide more roleplay opportunities.
Cakes, pies, cookies, tarts, and even bread. Use multiple ingredients with one being what creates the final object. Chocolate, apples and other fruits and vegetables could be used as the keys. Have it require a fire, flour, and the naming ingredient in order for the trade to be used. And then also require a baking pan or cookie sheet as the 'tool' requirement. A pass/fail on ingredient useage. If success you get finished product if a failure echo as burned beyond recognition and junk all the ingredients.
Thanks,
Wyber Wugglesnorffle.

Here it is.

Hmm kinda got sidetracked in this thread...but my original post has most of my ideas Minus the magicla affects. Looking back on it now I'd probably argue against myself on the merits of that. Just simple recipes for food would be enough

The idea of brew should be expanded, made into a general trade that all are able use to make consumables. Keeping the skill would allow MU's to keep making potions but allow the trade to tack on other aspects. Alchemy and herbalism, that is what baking constitutes. Yet they also delve into other things, such as poisons and remedies. Alcohol, whether it be beer or the hard stuff, are too brewed in their own way. Though I think the baking idea is good one, it is just a small aspect of a larger one. The MU's won't loose their potions, they would just have receipies that are not available to any but them. Hence, their spells, with out a recall spell you can't brew a recall potion.
A thief might like to dabble in a poison that makes you sleep, so he can mikey that cupcake he just baked for you, so he can steel you blind/asleep. Or a druid would rather make you some herbal tea to go with a short cake.(A herbal tea that will calm your nerves and calm you mental state so you go back to feeling great) A weaver might want to make his new cloth stand out, so he pulls out a dye receipe for canary yellow. A tarvern keep might want to make an especially potent beer for the dwarven traders that will be arriving next month. What endless possiblities there could be. From the dasterly of the thief to the mundane of the weaver. But not made possible by just concentrating on baked goods.

Cooking Trade?
Cooking?
So - I have searched as much as possible through the old forums, and saw nothing about this. (if it exists, then sorry). So, I have been thinking about a cookery trade. This would involve having various skill levels (the usual) of a trade, which can enable a PC to utilise ingredients to cook varying foods.
There will be a quest which will involve learning about the cuisines of other countries (at least this is an idea I have), such as Calishite, Waterdhavian... Northman, barbarian... wilderness...
I can imagine ingredients, such as the basics:
Flour
Butter
Milk
Eggs
Utensils, possibly?
Measuring Jug
Bowl
Sieve
Grater
Fork
*shrug*
Just a few suggestions - let me know what you think, or even if the idea has been discussed before.

I've always thought this was a great idea.
My thought is that some things you cook or bake will fill you up faster or slower than others, as well. For example, combining ingredients to create "a dish of roast beef with herbs and potatoes" would give you a meal that would likely stuff you in one serving. Baking up "a sugar cookie", on the other hand would only take you up one level of hunger (i.e., from "STARVING!" to "You are really hungry."). EDIT: What I also meant to add here was that your level of knowledge in the trade would depend on how big the food you make would be. If you're inept, you'd be limited to very basic foods with minimal ingredients, such as the aforementioned "a sugar cookie", which would probably consist of eggs, sugar, and milk. On the other hand, if you had the trade up to adept, you could make fancier and bigger meals.
Another thought is a new spin on brewing, only not brewing spells . . . brewing ales and wines, or even making juices with water, sugar, and a fruit. Maybe even wild herb tea with one of the game's herbs, and the tea would give you the affect of whatever herb it is made of.
By the way, Lerytha, I love the idea of going on quests for "recipes" !
I'm finding this an interesting discussion. Maybe having this as a trade would add a lot of flavour to the game?
(Sorry. )

"May your travels be Wonderful and Mysterious."
I see this as an adorable and good idea(especially for the forest folk during gatherings). Many times I have seen players cooking stew and such in an RP session with a fire before laying a bowl of stew which they apparantly cooked themselves onto the ground. And I'm pretty sure they had it in their inventory all the time. Which is kinda funny sometimes, for some odd reason.
On the other hand, I think we can make do with RPing the way I mentioned above in the meantime. But all in all, I like the idea and I wouldn't mind waiting for the imms and builders to finish coding everything else before working on this. No big hurry.

With the addition of raw/cooked flags on food items now, and the emergence of foraging for a whole bunch of fruits and veggies, I can see a culinary trade leading to all sorts of cool recipies. So I thought I'd give this thread a bump.
I'd imagine being able to do a command like:
prepare <stew, cake, pie, plate><fooditem><fooditem><etc.>
Preparing a cake or pie of course, would require flour and water as raw materials (as needing brine to tan, arrowheads to fletch, etc.), plus any other raw ingredients you wanted to add into the cake, take raw strawberries and raw peaches for example, it would yield...
A cake with strawberries and peaches
Or have raw meat of a wyvern, a raw tomato and raw blueberries, and prepare a stew to yield
A stew of wyvern, tomato, and blueberries
skill level could not only determine whether you make a mess or not, but also result in a taste echo in who eats it. An inept product could result in something like "Ugh! what is in that?! You try to be polite and barely choke it down.", while a GM product would lead to an echo like "You feel as if you've tasted food to the gods." or something like that.
The logistics part would be the number of servings created... in most trades, one of each raw material yields only one finished product (1 arrow, 1 sword, 1 piece of jewelry, etc.) But making a stew out of multiple ingredients, or a pie, etc. would yield far more than one serving.
