A question on room flags and sectors

Post by Kirkus » Sun Feb 24, 2008 2:57 pm

Now this could just be a problem with typing up my area in word for the moment... but when I put in a large number of room flags or sectors it chops the line.... let me try to explain...

where the line should be 0 0 0 0 0 0 it is turning into:

0
ROOM_INDOORS|ROOM_NO_MAGIC|ROOM_NO_ASTRAL 0 0 0

Is this a problem or what?

Flags are actually numbers and change to numbers once read by the hard code I believe. So if I read the question right, you are fine with putting words since they will translate later on.

And why not use the free java and windows programs created to write .are files. I keep the java ones on a usb stick and just plug it in any computer and it leaves no footprints on the system(ideal if working on files while at work)

does it work in mac OS X? My original intent was to copy and paste the file to textpad when I was done... after I switched to my macbook it has been an adventure in learning how to live in a windows world.

you know, Japcil, after your post I was wondering why I wasn't using the numbers myself.... They arn't on the builder lesson page anymore. If I remember correctly they used to be part of the chart that would say what each flag or sector did and what the number was.

Also if I remember right you can spill over to another line so something like the flags are on the first line and the sectors and the rest are on the next line?

Read my comments in the thread here:

TextWrangler will save your life for area building on the Mac. Use it with the syntax file and it will hilite most of the stuff you need to see hilited.

And yes, you can use the FKBuilder java app to check the area after and it works just fine.

Yes you can spill over but do not use the return key. Also it is better to use words for error checking when you break it down. Most people read words better than relating a certain number to a specific meaning.

Yes, flag names, please. We have to proof your areas visually during the review process, and I do not want to try and figure out what 514 or 8 or 325832 breaks down to in bitvectors. Have mercy, please :)

That being said Kregor is there any that can be done to make the process easier for you?

Oh and by the way... I started imputing my file into textpad and I don't think my original question is even relevant anymore. I just had to open up Parallels and textpad was right there.
