We've all done it before. Accidentally doing something on the keyboard and causing your character to do something they would never, ever do.
How do you have your characters react when you make a mistake OOC that causes your character to act un-ICly?
I, personally find this ridiculously difficult. Sure, if I accidentally type the wrong direction (before config option for swim was in) I can say my character went for a dip but got pulled in by the undertow/rapids and drown. Or, if I accidentally type the wrong direction and send my level 11 wizard to face off against a Hill Giant, I could say I was being chased by some Kobolds and met my fate against a Hill Giant.
But silly things, such as forgetting to alias 'K' to be 'lasdnkahnekwa' can truly leave your characters (especially low level ones who may not have any friends yet) in a real bind!
As a side note, the reason for my bringing this topic up today is because I'm in the situation listed above. I meant to look at a guard and instead had my level 12 attack in Silverymoon. Silverymoon has no prison, so even if you are configured to surrender, they're gonna kill you. So, my Lawful Good level 12 with no real friends yet (due to his starting area and race) is now dead.
Sure, I'd like advice on how to contend with that in an IC manner, but also other situations you've all come across!

I just thought I'd share how I finally figured out how to deal with this particular issue of mine:
It occurred in Silverymoon. My Level 12 Lawful Good character accidentally attacked a guard because I typed 'k guard' instead of 'l guard.' Needless to say, I missed and fled immediately. Upon returning, 6 of his buddies proceeded to pwn me. I died in a single round (those guys are tough!).
My cover story for this VERY un-IC event was that my Dwarf (who wasn't even armed at the time) was swatting at a fly. The guard saw the swing out of the corner of his eye and thought I was attacking him. He immediately called more guards and saw my attempt to withdraw (flee!) as further signs of guilt.
