I was wondering if anyone else has problems with the commands tell and otell? On some characters I can type part of their name and the game converts it into the actual player. Sometimes though, don't ask me what the difference is, I will randomly tell / otell an NPC or receive an echo that states: "They aren't here"
Does anyone else get this?
Obviously, I need to be specific with my tells and otells by spelling out the entire name. Though I am just curious why some people can be shortened and others cannot?

Re: Tells and Otells
After a long series of wrong person tells years back, tell and otell names is one of the few things I do not short-hand.
I do somehow send tells to myself now and then... *shrug*

Yeah, best advice is as Nysan says, just stick with typing out the full name and you can't go wrong.

Much as I figured. Was just semi-curious as to why some short hand does work and some doesen't.

That's easy. Keyword coding. Words or word fragments mods and objects are marked with for identification purposes. When you send a tell to NPC bobby instead of character Bobbet, the short hand "bob" likely was set a keyword during bobby's coding phase.Erwyth wrote:Much as I figured. In way of additional explanation: It'll change from working to not working depending on who else is logged into the game.

I may be wrong but I think that if you are hiding or disguised, it must be typed the full name to make sure you get the tell.

Yes, good point - Alvirin is correct, hidden and disguised characters will also change whether an adjective-aimed tell finds (the right, or any) mark.Alvirin wrote:I may be wrong but I think that if you are hiding or disguised, it must be typed the full name to make sure you get the tell.
