Help Keep Waterdeep Newbie

Post by Nysan » Tue Dec 02, 2008 4:14 am

This is not an order, just a suggestion.

Waterdeep is the default 'newbie' town, where young characters get their feet and start collecting cash. Usually, these characters cannot travel as far or as safely as older characters. If you have an older character, that does not worry about bandits and other road hazards, please consider selling your loot in other areas before Waterdeep.

Doesn't bother us older characters much to travel to Tantras or Berdusk to sell that platemail armour, but thats 40 platinum not taken out of Waterdeep's economy could buy several items from that level 12 priest trying to afford their first weapon.

Just something to consider next time you're emptying your backpack folks.

I agree, Nysan. :)

Also, maybe some of the merchant guild PCs (those who have the ring and RP as merchants) could make some sort of IC request, so we have some IC way to tell people, "Hey, wait a minute, maybe visit Berdusk, hmm? The merchant's guild has asked for the wealth to be spread around all Faerun, and commerce to be made available to all cities, not just Waterdeep"?

Because OOC is great, but sometimes an osay can be taken badly OOC. IC can (or at least should) never be taken badly OOC. :)

Just an addition to Nysan's sensible, considerate request.

I like that idea about the merchants guild members taking a role in this. I'll admit to slamming WD's economy from time to time, but if it were to be worked into Arnof's RP as a merchant I'd be all for spreading the wealth. :) Good call, both of you.

That's all well and good. Nice blue skies approach, however the fact of the matter is that the other economies, quite honestly, aren't set for a multi-player game. You sell a sword. Get ripped off hardcore in the process. And, after all that traveling, they won't buy anything else.

Just keepin it real.

Waterdeep does have the biggest economy, you're right Selveem. But there is no harm in trying to sell elsewhere first. Most of us do not stay in Waterdeep all day anyways, why not try selling something in Westgate first before hitting up the Waterdeep General Store.

Not saying don't sell in Waterdeep, tons of loot would never be sold that way. Not much different in making Waterdeep your last stop rather than your last stop for loot unloading, besides leaving more in the Waterdeep pool for youngling, and thats my point.

Merchant folk, do what you can... even if it just buying something in bad/aweful condition, repairing it, and reselling it elsewhere for a small profit.
