Raona: Vlyra Malahvan Bryndesia and Purple Worm Threat

Fellow Citizens of Waterdeep -
I write with some urgency this even, to appraise ye of a volatile situation with
which the City seeks your aid and co-operation. A short time ago a young lady
from Westgate, who I understand gave her name as Vlyra, sought to hire couriers
from the Auction House of our fair City, to deliver some purple eggs to the
sewers of our City. She claimed to be a follower of the Crying God, quested with
ridding us of the pestilence borne upon the rats and other vermin of our sewers.
The eggs, according to her tale, would hatch worms that prey upon the rats and
similar vermin, while otherwise innocuous - over time, they would keep the
vermin in check.
Some of those present doubted the veracity of this tale, among them Watchman
Florian, who did confiscate one of the eggs and submit it for examination. He
urged, and we didst undertake, an investigation of Vlyra's story, first
consulting the Ilmateri church. The branch in Waterdeep knew nothing of the
matter, so I dispatched a courier to Westgate to check with the church there.
When he had not returned after some time, I ventured to Westgate myself, to find
the lad happy and healthy, but having somehow completely forgotten how he came
to be there, including the matter I charged him with seeing to. Consultations
with the Ilmateri church in Westgate confirmed the doubts of many of our
citizens: they had not quested anyone named Vlyra, though they recognised the
name as that of a noble's daughter, a man of some import - and dubious
reputation, implicated in the efforts of the Church of Poison - within Westgate.
Consultations with rangers, druids, and learned wizards led to hypotheses of
various flavours about the true nature of the egg, and clear indications that
the egg was, indeed, that of some subterranean worm. I sought a more definitive
determination, originally of Blackstaff, but was gently chided by Lord
Piergieron for immediately turning to the busiest man in the realms for
something likely not particularly centred in his realm of expertise. Instead, he
referred me to Volo, who almost immediately remarked, upon seeing the egg "Ah, a
purple worm egg! A nice trophy, though I do not suggest keeping it over-long.
Even the infants have a rather nasty poison."
I would ask any still holding one of these eggs distributed by Vlyra to
immediately destroy it, or submit it to a member of the Watch. Further, the City
offers a bounty of 15 platinum for any such egg found in (and removed from) the
City sewers. The eggs in question are about the size of a fist, of a greenish
hue, and covered with glistening purple slime. Submit any eggs you find to any
member of the Watch, but please see myself to collect the bounty.
Vlyra is wanted for further questioning on this matter, and citizens are advised
to keep her at arms length. If ye see her, report her whereabouts immediately to
the Watch. Should ye observe anyone in possession of one of these eggs, or
anyone acting oddly in the sewers of the Deep, the Watch would be most
interested in this information.
The Watch will begin patrolling the sewers extensively, effective immediately.
My thanks to Watchman Florian for his alert response to the situation, to
Watchman Elenthis for spearheading the investigations of the egg, and to
Feywarden Larethiel and the druid Sandric for their counsel upon the egg's
nature. Finally, kudos are due Fulgous, who both observed that the Ilmateri
church would surely confer with the legal authorities in the Deep before
initiating an effort such as this, and noted that the ecosystem within the sewer
could be thrown out of balance, with dire consequences, by the introduction
there of any exotic species.

Raona: Purple Worms and Trumble's Assault upon Rolf the Rotten
Wed Dec 31 03:34:57 2008
To: Waterdeep Language: common
Fellow Citizens of Waterdeep -
I have (further) information to relate on two matters related to the City Watch:
First, a young and troubled dwarf named Trumble was witnessed by two citizens to
be assaulting Rolf the Rotten. Subsequently, Watch Wizard Elenthis observed him
in the very same pursuit. For this Trumble was put in the stocks, this light
sentence granted in consideration of his youth. It is our sincere hope that
this respite will provide him the opportunity to chart a new course with his
life...and that we will take full advantage of the opportunity granted him. As
of this writing, his obligation to the City is considered paid, and we ask ye
each give him the benefit of a clean slate afore your own eyes. However, as I
pen this, Rolf was attacked again. Trumble was tracked down again, but claimed
innocence. Investigations are ongoing. Anyone witnessing any of these events
is asked to contact the Watch, or if has immediately occurred, REPORT the
occurrence to Lady Honoraria.
Secondly, and far more troubling, I have further information to relate
concerning the efforts to place purple worm eggs into the Waterdeep sewers.
First, be advised that an individual by the name of Grisbech, claiming to be the
Foreman of the "Westgate Branch of Express Deliveries", advertised on behalf of
Vlyra's efforts, using the same cover story she did. Consultations with
Geoffrey here in the Deep confirm that Express Deliveries has no office in
Westgate, thus this Grisbech is highly suspect, and also wanted for questioning.
Second, we know that at least one egg was returned to the custody of this Vlyra
woman. As such, we consider it a fair risk that further efforts will be made to
place eggs into our sewer system, and we ask all citizens to remain alert.
Report any suspicious activity to the Watch, or better still, in a public
posting.
Third, the egg that was being kept in evidence by the Watch was immediately
taken to the Fields of Glory, for destruction by fire. Alas, even as we moved
hither, it began to shake and quiver. We threw it into the flames, and watched,
with a sigh of relief, as it was consumed. Alas, our relief was short-lived.
Sifting through the ashes, they sank into a hole beneath the fire...from which
an infant purple worm emerged moments later. The worm must have hatched and
burrowed into the ground beneath the fire, before the fire could consume it.
The worm seemed dazed for a moment, but we ourselves were caught unprepared, and
it escaped into the City streets, with us in hot pursuit. We managed to rescue
a citizen that the worm attacked, but the beast then escaped into the sewers,
where it was again pursued, but not caught. Thus, be well warned that at least
one infant purple worm now resides in the sewers. It is poisonous, and hard to
dispatch.
Finally, be it knowne that a reward of 50 platinum coins is offered for the
corpse of any infant purple worm, killed in the sewers of the Deep. Submit
corpses to any member of the Watch, but please see myself to collect the bounty.
This bounty is only open to citizens of Waterdeep.

This is an archive of a series of postings to the public in-game noteboards, related to a specific subject with lingering ramifications. As there is a cap to how many messages can be posted to the notice boards, such messages are now transferred here, that new players may refer to them to better understand the history of the events.
